Bummer. Got forced to order the kit and pay extra for the castle nuts and cotter pins because the regular LBJs are on back order. :frusty:

Maybe a lot of other dealers have residual in stock and at their distribution centers, but none here locally.

It's still a small expense for peace of mind at best, preservation of life at worst.

    Imma keep it stock
That's why you order from a wholesaler like Serra Birmingham

I was not able to order the recall kit from any dealers on the Toyota online parts program (whatever it's called). But I got the regular LBJ with the 20% sale they had and free shipping. I found the recall kit through ourisman Toyota (formerly mcgeorge). It was a little cheaper even with having to pay shipping.

Fyi- the recall kit did come with a 4 pack of cotter pins. No castle nuts.

Didn’t want to wait for it to come in the mail. I can fortunately save shipping costs by picking it up locally.

I've been in the same dilemma multiple times. But my local dealers are so ridiculously over priced, I'll wait for shipping. Plus I found an online seller in the region that is great price online and sends part out really quick with UPS.

Example of my local dealers- they charge around $15 for a yzzd3 oil filter. MSRP is $6. I can get them from the online parts dealer for $4.

Here the dealer I use sell both online and have regular marked up counter prices. The benefit comes from their online sales having a selection for local pickup.

Oh yeah forgot that was an option. None of my 3 local dealers participate online (anymore). So I'm either paying local counter prices (nope!) or buying online from a dealer couple hundred miles away.

    So I was curious.

    In this thread so far:

    31 LBJ failures

    16 OEM toyota wheels
    5 Aftermarket wheels
    10 Unknown wheels.

OEM wheels kill lower ball joints

my local dealer is crazy priced, next dealer is over 300 miles away...owned by same company. In alaska...funny thing is when I lived in Oregon, the same parent company was super competitive. so now if im not in a giant hurry, I will order on line or from joe joe, and even wiht shipping to alsaka beat the local dealer price

Based on what I was reading about Joejoe earlier today, I think I'd be wary. Especially considering how many 1st gen parts seem to be backordered everywhere. No direct experience, but looks like a trend when it's more than 2-3 ppl.

I'm having great success with Amayama...great prices and reasonable delivery. Typically cost me less that half with shipping than the discount price alone from Ourisman, or whatever. You have to have several weeks, however. Shipping from Japan to Alaska has to be faster and cheaper than shipping to Maryland I bet. Check it out!

I think this is actually a knuckle fail, which I've been seeing a lot of lately.

Why would nature spare the sportside bed? That should be the first thing that gets damaged, upgraded and replaced.

And while towing, which should transfer weight to the back. Probably original LBJs.

And this, my friends, is why you always use fresh LBJ bolts and follow the toque specs for the specific bolt you use.

Ah, the damages one can incur from being ignorant about the LBJ problem in these trucks...

Perhaps it’s luck or that I prep my truck before and after every trip, but I’ve beat the shit out of my truck for 8 years and never had an LBJ failure. I’ve been running the same pair of Moog for about 6 years now and they’re still tight. If any truck should destroy LBJ, it should be mine.

I did mine hand tight with a 10-12 in ratchet and I easily got over 45 ft-lbs measuring with my torque wrench. Hopefully they’re not on too tight. :anonymous:
