I didn't want to wait for a custom box and decided to pull the trigger on a Box off Amazon and Kenwood shallow sub. Im VERY pleased with the outcome. Im using a AudioControl 6.1200 DSP amp and the DSR1 from tech12volts. The box is pretty well made and had no leaks. The binding posts were kinda junk so swapped them out for a set of better quality ones I had. I did the sound deadening on the whole rear bulkhead. I think that helped allot. I removed that junk that was there from the factory that looked like a blanket. Im pretty sure this sub box will fit with it in. Wose case you have to cut out a spot for the box to sit against the rear wall. I would just use the Kilmat Deadning. I used 2-3 layers from what I had left over from the doors of my CM. Im pushing 400 watts at 4-OMHs to the single coil sub. Nice and simple. My center is disconnected. Im using a composite set of 6x9's to the front doors and dash speakers. So im using all channels from the amp. Just one set is bridged to the sub. It hits VERY hard. Enough to make my truck rattle. Its plenty for me. Im not looking to be heard from up the block. The rear JBLs and sail panel tweets sound fine. No pops or cracks. I spent a few hours tuning the system with an old Kenwood CD with lots of frequency tests and all that stuff to make every speaker in the truck perform at the max with out distortion or clipping. Anyways here are some pictures. If you have questions post them here. No PMs please. I spent 230$ for the sub and box. the box alone is 99$ shipped on AmAz0N. Its a nice tight fit no need to put any brackets and the Kenwood does not hit the seat even when its playing loud. I like the Berliner finish on the box even though you cant see it. I also put a sheet or 2 of the KilMat on the inside rear of the sub box. Sorry if this is a run on paragraph. lol But I just want to let you guys know there are other boxes out there. You can always put a 10" sub in there if you prefer if your handy and have some skills with a Router table.

edit: I did add some poly fill to the box.

This is beautiful work! Congratulations on the new set up. Nothing better than a great system created by you!

Very nice work. sorry if i missed it but the front 6x9 are those replacements or the OEM ones?
Did you use a harness to connect the amp back into the factory wiring to the door/dash speakers?
Is the sub box bolted down at all?

I went with a local Shop to purchase the KFC-XP6902C , Make sure you get the 902c or the dash 3" speaker will be to high to get the Grill on. I have the JBL system so im getting great highs from the Factory JBL sail tweets. I used factory wires to everything but the Sub. I dont think it was up to the 400 watt task. The sub box does not budge once the rear seat is bolted back in. Crutchfield does not list these as fitting in the tundra but they do. I used the Factory JBL speaker adapters with little mods. They were ALLOT more rigid than the included universal Kenwood 6x9 door adapters. Im a fan of Using all available space in the doors. I have heard some good bass from 6x9's over the years. Im not knocking the 6.5" high end stuff. but I didn't want to spent 600$ on front speakers. The Kenwood sound great with the amp and double DSPs im using. Its a bit over kill. But im piecing this system as budget allows.

Thanks for the reply. I'm probably going to go the same route, purchase the DSR1 from James and piece the rest together myself as budget permits.
One thing i'm still confused on though.

DSR1 from James comes with harness to connect what went to the factory JBL amp to the DSR1. Output from the DSR1 is RCA cables to connect to Aftermarket amp. But what is available to connect the aftermarket amp back into the factory wiring for the door / dash speakers? (I know i'd run new wire from amp>sub) I'd rather not hack up that harness if I don't have to.

Make sure you get the TOY3 harness with the DSR1 Just match the harness to the amps outputs. I had to keep an iPad with me with the PDF or screen shot from what wires when where on how you decide to program the DSR1's setup. I. did the initial setup and firmware update on a PC. I deleted the center channel option. Its kinda confusing and hard to explain. I asked in another post Ill look for it now. Someone else explained it to me with pics of the DSR1 screenshots. They helped me figure out what way I wanted to wire the speakers up. I was confused because the wires on the TOY3 harness are labled "inputs". Yet they goto the amp. I just got real confused with the mess of wires I started with.. lol

I did some pre wiring in my kitchen like a test fit. Or dry run.. Or what ever you want to call it so I had a plan when I got started in this project. I hid all the bulk of the wires under the home made amp tray.

Link to the post with the output configs. I used one config that did not have a center channel. I dont really miss the center at all with the Kenwood 6x9 and 3" components plus the added treble from the JBL sail panel tweeters. They actually sound good and I had planned on replacing them. But they fill the Gap nice. I have had the system pretty loud and they sound surprisingly good. Im not going to replace them at this point.

Awesome job, extremely clean however I read on the forum never to mount your amp on a metal rack. If it is then just go buy some rubber bushings to keep amp from touching metal rack.

Love the install...They dont give those amp's away though. I wish I could justify the purchase.

Tell me about it I need a winch bumper for work around the house with trees and the fact the wife and I like to be adventurous on trails by ourself and the safety of knowing you had a winch is important.
The bumper I had picked out was the A.D.D. HOWEVER just spent a the majority of my bumper money on my stereo upgrade. LOL

Looks good- that box looks nice and compact which will allow you to shove some accessories up under the seat- with our already limited space I made the mistake of making my box to big then couldn’t fit my tow rope, ratchet straps, jump starter etc- I ended up having to cut it down.

I'm tryin to add a sub box that I had on my Tacoma, however I'm not sure if it will fit. Do you have a link to this box or do you recall the amount of room you had to work with. Maybe someone else can also chime in. Thanks!

Bottom of the seat - those are for power seat, seat heater and the fan that blows air up your butt.

Also should be noted, the yellow plug is actually for the in-seat airbags. Disconnect your battery before pulling that or you'll trigger a SRS malfunction code on the dash.

Do you have the link for the box so I can look for it on Amazon?
