I ordered some black pocket fender bolts online today. I plan on taking the stock pocket rivet fender flares off, swapping out the chrome bolts for black ones and then reinstalling.

Anyone taken these off? Do I need to buy any clips that may be involved?

Is it just a really bad idea?

I just took mine off today for the same reason. Nothing to it. There is one plastic pop in rivet at the bottom on each of the rear flares. I used a flat head screwdriver to pop it out. Be careful removing and you'll be able to reuse it.
