I did the same on my truck. I had a shimmy issue between 50-65 and I demanded that the dealer replace the Bridgestones for Michelins Defenders. Ride was better but I still had a shimmy. It was finally resolved after Toyota sent an engineer to diagnose/fix it. Tire pressure didn't seem to matter however. Still don't know what the engineer did to fix it. He wrote up an official report and handed me a copy. Everything checked out to factory specs but the shimmy was gone and still is. The only thing that I noticed was that there was a lot less balancing weights on my wheels after he touched it.

Factory alignment isn't always perfect. Hell nothing from factory is ever perfect these days.

A less weights? Perhaps rims are flawed..imbalanced thought tire rotation supposed to identify those issues

Personally, I think the dealership was incompetent or else had some rookie performing balancing. Dunno, but my shimmy is gone and tires are wearing evenly. It was one huge debacle and only after threatening a buy-back was it resolved. Go figure.

2017 SR5 cm with 275/55/20 Nitto TG and 30k miles is feathering as well. I run them at 35psi all around and would say Im not an overly aggressive driver - do enjoy the getting on the throttle at times though.

    Yes..
Yeah, bring out the big guns. :) It would drive me nuts if this was happening to me. My Ford friend would make fun of my Tundra. Don't want that!

It's been my experience that feathering is from shocks.
I've gone to Les Schwab for tires and shocks, until I recently bought take offs.
The Michelins haven't had to be balanced in a year and a half, yet.
It's not impossible that new shocks aren't working like they're supposed to.
    Get a tire dealers opinion.

    My penny.

Never run P rated tire on a Tundra. Always go at least a D rating. Always use at least 40 PSI up front. Without the rear sway bar. Tundras are terrible at nose diving in the corners. Which will wear your tires on the front edges and the rear edges.

I got right at 60,000 out my KOs and they weren't wore out when I changed them. I've got over 10,000 on my Falken AT3 and they don't even look like they've worn at all.

I caught he** from my friends, my neighbors, my co-workers, etc. Oh well, she's fixed now and their rides are constantly having problems. LOL, that's karma.

It never got real bad on mine so just roll with it. They will be worn out before you know it then you can get something good. I replaced mine at about 38k

Like someone else mentioned earlier, I have also heard that shocks can cause this. But, the fronts were checked supposedly. All good according to the field engineer.

Shocks.. I think so too. the truck bounces and shimmy's a little, it can't just be the tires right? I've seen cars driving around with bad shocks and the tire bounces like crazy.

That's what I thought too! From things I've read in the past. Never had experienced this first hand. I mean you can see the uneven wearing like it's got ridges! If it's just uneven wear, I would suspect it just being an alignment.

I only got 25,000 miles out of my factory tires. They are junk.

I have 32,000 miles on my take off 2017 Tundra rims and Michelins.
They are still in great shape.
I like the quietness and smooth ride of Michelins.
I'd like to find more aggressive Michelins, than the LTX AT2.
But, I think Michelins are the best tires out there.

Every Michelin I've had that came OEM on a vehicle wore out within 30,000. Every single one. I've probably had close to a dozen sets.

I honestly believe they make them softer for Toyota so they ride better.

The OEM tires on my 2002 became dangerous at 15k miles. Michelins Defenders are awesome. Working on my brand new third set in 10 years.

Omg I was going to post this exact same thing. But my Michelin’s have been on numerous manufacturers and they all sucked. I ended up with harder conpund Bridgestone that lasted considerably longer

Have you rotated your tires at all since you bought the truck and if yes - do you rotate your tires with a rearward cross?

I have the stock TSS wheels and tires 285/55/20's BFG KO2's. I run the door sticker psi in them (49psi) and have no issues. Hope they figure out what is causing your wear.

    Good Plan
Once you have that out of the way and she drives well and straight down the highway and runs smooth at all speeds, I would be thinking tires as marginal for the truck and replace them when it’s time with a better set.

My Michelin’s were a nice enough tire; quiet and smooth as silk, but honestly, they are fine for mileage and as a commuter/family tire but this truck is a bit of a beast and heavy, so I went with a 10 ply truck tire with a stiff sidewall.

A lot of people have that issue with lower speed rated tires over factory, especially if you plus size or put an LT tire on a 1/2 ton or lower vehicle. Some people try to get their tires balanced at multiple shops hoping someone can get rid of their vibration. Some people may get a bum after market wheel that isn't straight.

As to upping PSI in the tires, feathering happens on a lot of truck tires and upping the PSI helps the tire sit better in the road. A tire isn't truly round with the weight of the vehicle so the tread kinds folds up at the ground. Tires with bigger tread blocks have a harder time with feathering. Upping the PSI helps with that kind of tire wear. The manufacturer will tell you that you are changing the handling and braking characteristics of the vehicle but heck, tires aren't cheap and if you can drive you should be ok.

the problem is just not the wearing of the tires but if you feel the pattern there is some slight uneven feel on the threads.

Like its wearing more on the back side of each thread.

Chalk your tires when getting rotation I have had dealers not rotate my tires when asked.
Also I run 38-40 lbs all the time never 30-33 always had bad wear under 35.

Our trucks weigh almost 3 tons. The manufacturer recommended 33psi is reckless. Piss poor advice like that caused the firestone exploder problem. Run them higher.

Hell, on my wifes honda i put them at 44psi to have the correct contact patch...
