RATM is the closest I get to metal. Most of my heavier stuff is rockabilly, punk, underground etc

There was a time I would listen to a lot of Death, Deicide and Cannibal Corpse. I still listen to Death occasionally.

One of my favorites even when he was with Black Sabbath and Rainbow.

Ever since being introduced to Metallica in the late 90s, they've been my favorite for metal. I'll listen to others--mainly Disturbed and 5FDP--but I know the lyrics to pretty much every song from Kill'em All through Reload. They lost me at St. Anger, but supposedly starting with Death Magnetic they went back toward their original sound. Have yet to look into that, so maybe I'm not a true metal fan.

Gotta love the "Hair Metal " bands, I grew up with that. My 1st concert was Def Leopard too, back in the 80s.

Except for when they shut down Napster. Had a lot of resentment towards them and probably didn't listen to a single song for 2 years. I was younger back then and didn't quite understand that people need to put food on the table somehow.

.. but the first time feeling of launching Napster after upgrading to a cable modem still remains

Check out Semblant and Sons of Apollo. Sons of Apollo is made up of 3 former members of Dream Theater and 2 of them were with The Winery Dogs.

I should have listed them, too. Saw them in '84 or so with Wendy O. Williams opening.

My first Metal show had ST opening along with Fight, then Metallica as the head liner... back when Metallica had long hair and Jason Newstead was around. Never got to see Cliff Burton though.

Ya I'm a concert whore. Me and a bud still try to hit most of the ones that come around. Just seen disturbed a couple months back...that was good. I never got into much until I saw them but nine inch nails blew me away. My all time fav tho is Soundgarden but I guess it's technically not "metal".

Since Metallica seems to be the one brought up the most (as they should), my favorite album is the black album. I was a young teenager when it came out. So it was my intro to the band, and to metal as a whole. Therefore I judge any other metal album accordingly. I gravitate much more to their earlier albums. Had I heard Kill/Ride/Master/Justice first, any of those could just as easily have been my favorite. The black album just happened to pop my metal cherry. There’s nothing quite like your first time! They started going downhill with Load and Reload, then they hit rock bottom with St Anger and Death Magnetic, IMO. Fortunately, they started out so high up on the hill that even those two albums are still above average by any standard other than “Metallica”. Hardwired is a step up from their post-black album releases, so that’s encouraging. But 80s Metallica was SO GOOD...

Anyway, not trying to derail the thread. But... Metallica!
