Favorite bourbon/ whiskey...

Nah they are only 50 ml. No big bottles and normally would have passed, but my brother-in-law has never had Blantons, so it’s a gift to him.

The other 3 bottles are 750ml

 

I was lucky enough to score a Weller single barrel in the Utah lottery this year. $50

 

At a grocery store, you're killing me... If we only had that in VA...

 

That's a 2014 Batch 2 bottle of the Stagg, can't believe it has managed to sit around that long.

 

And yet I had luck last year walking into an ABC and there was a shelf full of ER in VA lol

I think it’s a Batch 17. They had the same proof as the Batch 2.

Still pretty cool since it’s the last batch with “Jr” in it. Next years batch will drop the “jr” to commemorate the 18th batch

I did a blind taste test of some different bourbons last week with a buddy of mine. We tasted the following:
- Jim Beam
- Buffalo Trace
- Eagle Rare
- Blantons
- 4 Roses
- Old Forester Rye
- Redneck Riviera
- Sazerac Rye

For me, completely blind not knowing, 4 Roses came out on top.

 

Thoughts on the Rye vs the 4 Roses?

 

Not to thread jack, but I have always seen them as pretty comparable. 4R being pretty spicy.

I really dig this thread! I have made a list of bourbon and scotch to try. Also discovered some ridiculously good bourbon

 

Today was an epic day for a bourbon collector!!! Local store had a special drop with so many unicorns I’m still in disbelief! There was over 500 bottles of Stagg Jr and blantons store pick in this drop! The first guy in-line got OFC, EH Taylor warehouse C, EHT full proof, EHT single, EHT 18, EHT four grain, the whole Weller line up, a few antiques, Stagg jr and so many more it’s hard to list them all. My brother camped out over night and got the whole Weller line up. I got there around 4:30am and I was 24th in-line. I’m still in shock at what I got for retail. Today was unreal!

My ‘score’ today was the local shop not having the bottom of the barrel. Don’t see these at our stores so I bought em. Nothing too special though.

 

That AE is a nice find man. I was able to snag a bottle/box combo. Never had the 15 year. Looking forward to trying it.

 

That's definitely one my fav's. Crazy what it goes for on secondary. Really great bottle.

What part of Texas are you in?

 

So this was not scientific at all lol. Just us scoring the nose and the taste on a scale of 1-10. Here are my ratings:
- Old Forester Rye I gave a 5 on the taste and 4 on the nose. It was ok, nothing special IMO, which was surprising since the last OF I had was really good.
- Sazerac Rye I rated 5 on the taste and 3 on the nose. I really like Sazerac and was surprised at how I rated it drinking it straight. Definitely more spicy than I remember.
- 4 Roses I rated as a 10 on taste and 2 on the nose. It was the first one we tasted and I hated the way it smelled. But damn was it smooth.

Gotcha. I know Specs in Dallas had a pretty big drop today too.

 

I just found out he also got the Double Eagle Very Rare. I was able to get the whole Weller store pick line up today minus the Antique 107.

 

The big drop was in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Houston had 350 people in line at 6am and they opened at 10am. San Antonio had the shortest line.

 

Good lord! Hell of a haul!

 

Copped two of these traders joes bourbons for $30 ea today. Rumor is it’s Buffalo Trace and I’m inclined to believe it cuz of the bottle
