I may eventually acquire a taste for Rye, it's ok but I prefer a solid bourbon first. The Pinhook may get better with time.

It’s where people dump unfinished (or unwanted) whiskey from their tasting glass

I don't think you're actually supposed to drink the whisky at a tasting but I could be wrong.

Two pick ups on the way home from the sushi bar. Hibiki was $90 and the double oaked was $50

We did this15 years ago when I was residing with a couple drinking buddies. We deemed that bottle “swirly bird” after the little bit of whiskey that would be swirling around in the bottom of an empty. Was rarely anything good back then. Mostly Jim beam and ancient age as I recall. Whatever handle was on sale!

I think Basil Hayden's bourbon is my favorite at the moment but that changes frequently. If I'm drinking it neat I really like Bulleit. Over ice I really like Legent as well.

I think you'll be disappointed. The 1920 is thee best one.

CodyP, I ended up with these 2 instead. A little disappointed in the Hancock's, just not enough flavor, it has good flavor but it's a bit weak. The Old Ezra is pretty hot and tasty unfortunately it's not my favorite flavor profile if that makes sense.

I try to find beauty elsewhere too when I know I should just go back and just get another bottle of 1920. Lol

Bought a bottle of 9 year Knob Creek small batch yesterday. Although I like it there s something that bothers me about it. The bottle top/stopper isn t cork. It s some type of plastic material. I m anal about plastic. I admit it. I went to the knobcreek website and wrote them a message asking them what type of material it is. I ll be interested in their response.

Those synthetic corks are fairly common. Their also used in wine quite a bit. They don't break down like real cork can.

I think it's polyethylene. Same stuff as milk bottles

Supposedly there's been a cork shortage building for a few years. I think even some high end wineries have been forced to go to plastic. Of course, they're now claiming it's better than cork anyway.

I too am guilty of that. I know I love Makers. In all forms. Yet I get swayed by a pretty bottle or a catchy name, and Im off again.

I have a bottle of 1920 with just one drink gone. I didn't care for it, but I think I'll revisit that tonight.

My compadre invited me over for a beer and snacks. I stopped by the local market looking for that Buffalo Trace to share with him ~ it must be pretty popular because it's often out of stock.
I had to suffer with two bottles of Four Roses instead ~ I prefer the Buffalo but the Roses aren't bad either.

I've only paid retail once when I absolutely had to have a jug of Buffalo Trace to share at Christmas time. It's readily available at the local liquor store but the S&F grocery store has much better pricing.
It must be a sort of local favorite ~ it is pretty darned good ! :)
