    I've been really enjoying Angel's Envy lately. It's finished in port barrels.

    depends on how much you like the person that you’re gifting too..
    The green label Weller is pretty hard to find in SoCal.

    Based on taste, the Elijah would be my pick but that’s subjective.
    The only time that i drink Buffalo is mixed with Coke.

    Is also say Weller because it’s next to impossible to get in the mid Atlantic region as well.

    If I could only drink one bourbon under $30/bottle the rest of my life, Buffalo Trace would be it. In a blind tasting, it was the second favorite of me and my friends behind only Blanton’s (there were some high dollar bourbons in the mix - BT was the cheapest).

    I am a huge Makers fan but have to say I don't care for the 20-02 Cask Strength , still searching for the 2020 Limited release.

    If you really like the person, I’d say Weller... hard to find in my region, and it is quite tasty IMO... good luck! Cheers!

    I am a long term Stitzel-Weller fan (Old Fitzgerald, Weller's, Rebel Yell, etc.) These bourbons originated from an 1849 mash bill which replaced rye with winter wheat. "Pappy" Van Winkle was the master distiller at Weller's which produced Old Fitzgerald and Cabin Still. "Pappy" advised his friend Bill Samuels and gave Bill the mash bill which became Maker's Mark, aided by a starter yeast culture from Stitzell-Weller.

    "Pappy", I am told, was a big fan of the Weller's Old Cabin Still brand which he converted to an entry level priced wheated style bourbon that was aged 4 years. Over time, the Cabin Still brand became very popular and it had a huge following. Growing up, there was always a bottle of Cabin Still on a table in our dining room. The Cabin Still brand was nearly destroyed when Canada Dry bought the brand in the 1970's when bourbon faded in popularity to vodka, rum and gin. Canada Dry substituted an inferior bourbon that it could not sell in Cabin Still bottles and sales went to near zero.

    The Heaven Hill distillery, located in Bardstown, KY, now owns the Old Fitzgerald and Cabin Still brands and Cabin Still is back on the market with its original mash bill. It is marketed as a bottom shelf, lower priced bourbon, aged 3 years and priced around $10 for 750 ML I love it and prefer it to most of the higher priced bourbons. If I was rich, I would drink Blanton's every night but I am not rich. 2 oz of Cabin Still over large ice cubes gets me feeling nice and relaxed every night.

    Thank you for that history lesson. It goes to show how the lineage of many of the bourbons coming out of that region are closely related. I view it is coopetition between the distillers where they share their trade with their neighbors and the differences is a little of the recipe, water, crops and barrels that make up their product.

    I’ve been fortunate enough to take attend a few ratings by the owner of the bar Bourbon in DC. He is from the Bardstown area and bottles a few barrels under his own brand. He brought a few unlabeled bourbons for us to taste and focuses more on the are and time in barrel than he did on the distiller. I believe he did this to focus on the flavor profile and not the name brand.
    Unfortunately the restaurant group that hosted these events annually closed that location last year.

    I really like it and didnt expect too. This is my second bottle...i think.

    Its kinda rough, but suprisingly smooth for only 3 years. Im a Dry Fly fan, so ill grab and try pretty much anything they put out...except the port finished.

    Definitely grab a bottle if ya like the higher proof stuff.

    Bourbon slushy

    9 cups water;
    3 tea bags (flavored herbal tea Or) black tea;
    1 1/4 cups of sugar;
    12 oz of frozen lemonade concentrate;
    6 oz of frozen orange juice concentrate;
    2 cups of bourbon;
    Ginger beer or ale to mix with after it's frozen.

    To process: Bring the tea bags to a boil in about 4 of the 9 cups of water, and steep for 10 minutes. When completed, throw out the tea bags and stir in the sugar. Combine the tea, the lemonade concentrate and the orange concentrate into the remaining water and the bourbon.
    Place the concoction into the freezer for 18 hours or overnight. When you're ready to serve, put the slushie mix into a glass and top with ginger beer
