I don't know anything about it and haven't tried it. My wife was interested at the liquor store so we bought it. The label lists the specific cask/stave ingredients, so it's conceptually like an FAE. It's a limited release, this is bottle 242/256 (iirc, but close to this if not exact)

I'll drop an image of the "recipe" when I have a chance.

I might have a sip tonight!

Can't find any info online so now you all know as much as I do..

Nose is classic bourbon with a significant alcohol punch. Maybe a little grassy.

Front end is citrus, tobacco, and a hint of vanilla that carries through and strengthens with the finish. Mouthfeel is thin with an oily residue that lingers but isn't unpleasant at all.

A splash of water helps prop the flavor profile up over the alcohol punch.

Not bad, not amazing. Probably not worth the $60 or $70 (I forget, exactly) price tag.

My experience with their Private Select series is those with a higher 46 stave count, probably because I am a big fan of the 46 cask strength.

Going out of town for a few days so I wanted to try this. It's pretty good stuff, cinnamon apple right up front then the second sip less cinnamon. Pretty smooth palette, with a nice finish, 100 dollars American but I would say a good choice.

    At a tasting event today.

I loved the masters selection makers, and the remus Gatsby reserve.

In true to me form, I also enjoyed the dickle 12 year sour mash.

Of all the others I tried, I was happy I left them on the shelf at the store.

My buddy bought me that bright light blue colored bottle in your last pic for my birthday and I’ve yet to open it. Did you try it?

Had the opportunity to help pick a barrel over the weekend. Hopefully it doesn't suck. Pretty cool process.

    Flux capacitor!
I got a call a few weeks back for the 10 year and 12 year Jack Daniel’s. I was told this is the first year they have offered the 12 year. They’re both good but I prefer the 12 year it has a little more heat to it.

So I took a chance this, $89 figured it was a mistake or the truth, turns out truth. Not a rye fan but recently had one I enjoyed so why not, first sip - mild / sweet and then the grassy flavor hit, woof! Second sip better less grass but went more medicinal, 3rd sip I got band aids and not much for a finish, another lesson learned.

I'm not 100% but I think I got both of mine at around $60. I live in Utah where we have price controls on liquor though, so that's not a good measure outside of this state. Looks like it's about $75 at TW in Western states.. Really hard to compare east and west coast prices when it comes to spirits though.

Picked up a 2013 Birthday Bourbon in a local trade. Getting harder and harder to find these older releases.

That's kinda weird; I've had a few bottle of that and never got 'band aid' :notsure:... they do lean a little more toward the earthy/grassy tones. I think I've got a touch left of a bottle, so now I'm gonna have to try some tonight and 'search' for the 'band-aid' flavor. What year is yours???

You may soften those unpleasant flavors a bit if you open it up a bit w/a touch of water and allow it to breathe for 10-15 minutes. Sucks though when you spend that much and dislike the product. Funny looking at the posts below yours talking about Birthday Bourbon, as I've tried (bought) several years of it and have yet to really care for it's taste. So for me, that's a good novelty to share w/people that want to try it...

I don't see any year listed, just to be sure I tried it again and still get a band aid taste. I will try the water trick next time .

Birthday Bourbon, never had it but chased it a few times getting caught up in the hype, yet I have heard since it's not all that it's chalked up to be.

It may just be me, but I definitely have never liked the BB... to me it's not even worth the gas trying to find it (or the now inflated prices). I'll take a $30 bottle of basic Buffalo Trace over that any day of the week

Sorry, I just looked at my bottle, and you're right no date on it :notsure:... My bottle has a bit more proof to it, so they are definitely different barrels at least.

Anyhow, enjoy your evening, and I hope that I don't find 'band-aids' in the rest of that bottle now that you've got me looking for it :frusty:

So... I had a decent pour of it tonight, and in spite of my best efforts no 'band aid' tasting notes on mine (thank God). I do enjoy ryes though, so maybe that's helping to steer me to a better place w/this one. I believe this is my 4th or 5th bottle and usually (much like tonight) I'm getting the typical grassiness, leather, spice and burnt toffee from Willet.

I was searching around a few websites though while sipping, and noticed some other negative reviews about the product. Several folks were recently reporting a heavy dill pickle taste from theirs that was almost overwhelming and in no way pleasant. Can't say I've ever had that from any whiskey (except when doing pickle backs ;)).

If I can ever afford this, I'm definitely in a much different place in life than I've ever been

Spoiler alert: This whiskey is listed at over $800k!!!!

    https://www.frootbat.com/product/48...Single-Malt-Whisky-750ml-Bottle/United-States

About 7-10 years ago, I was heavily into Irish Whiskeys. My favorite was Midleton Very Rare (I've had around 10 bottles over the years), and I also enjoyed Bushmills 1608, 16 and 21s (again several bottles of each). The most I ever paid for Midleton was $169/bottle (low end was $90), and for the Bushmills varieties is was between $60 and $120. I was looking at the prices online tonight, and OMG you can't touch any of them for under $300 these days. I guess I was fortunate enough to sample and enjoy numerous bottles of what are now rare or 'highly sought after' whiskeys because most of these are no longer affordable for me.

Well, cheers everyone and have a great night :hattip:

Utah is such a weird place.

"Hey arent these supposed to be allocated?"

"Nope boss says they should be on the shelf"

    20230426_182112.jpg

They definitely are supposed to be, hey at least I asked.
