Another bourbon night, this time we did a series of blinds 2 at a time. 1 Redemption high rye, 2 John J Bowman, 3 was Black Dirt, the Michters was late to the party and most likely would have been number 3. None of the others were even liked and the last place would probably be the Bardstown.

I've yet to have a Bardstown offering that I like. Bardstown is a great place - you'd think it's namesake bourbon would be better.

I have had a few of them and only one did I really like, a Discovery Series but I don't remember which one. I don't see myself buying any more.

I've got that same bottle of Dickel but haven't opened it yet... Disappointing to hear it didn't do well. I'm also surprised about the Pure Kentucky, although it's been several years since I've had it, but back then I thought it was fairly nice for the price :notsure:

I think that's what makes the hobby great - liking what tastes best to you and finding what you enjoy.

I love that dickle BIB, but their 15 year I tried night was a solid 5/10. Oh well.

I recently picked up the Dickel and had the same experience. It's not terrible but not something I'll buy again.

Decent pull on this Good Friday. Local ABC store did a holiday release and I got a decent spot in line. Lucky if I can get one bottle of buffalo trace a year with how our stores operate. Haven’t tried these particular versions of Elijah or Woodford before. The eagle rare is a state pick.

Being in NC you should have a look around for Reservoir offerings!

Curious to hear your feedback when you get around to tasting that Woodford. I saw it on the shelf once but for some unremembered reason passed it over.

Visited Japan for a couple of weeks and picked up a couple Wild Turkey international only bottles. Drank the 8 yr while in Japan. Everything you like about WT 101 and more. Really smooth and easy to drink. Looking forward to trying the 12 and 13 yrs.

Grabbed this after seeing some folks talking about it a couple pages back. Certainly smooth, but thought it was a somewhat light. If I ever see the cask strength version that might be worth a try.

Here were the final two I picked up on my west coast bourbon (and rye) spree.

Lots of sampling to do now..

The color on that yellow stone was just too much to pass up. Hopefully it's as good as it looks.

That's a good one! Excellent barrel proof bourbon. Haven't seen it in the stores for a while.

I’ll look for the Reservoir! Yeah I’ll let you know on the Woodford…their other offerings are solid so I had to grab it.

That's awesome. Not sure I'll ever see one in the wild, but I'm definitely not paying 10x markup lol.

Did you like that? I couldn't find any info and passed. Is it a relabeled FAE? because it would be a great deal if so..

I don't know anything about it and haven't tried it. My wife was interested at the liquor store so we bought it. The label lists the specific cask/stave ingredients, so it's conceptually like an FAE. It's a limited release, this is bottle 242/256 (iirc, but close to this if not exact)

I'll drop an image of the "recipe" when I have a chance.

I might have a sip tonight!

Can't find any info online so now you all know as much as I do..

Nose is classic bourbon with a significant alcohol punch. Maybe a little grassy.

Front end is citrus, tobacco, and a hint of vanilla that carries through and strengthens with the finish. Mouthfeel is thin with an oily residue that lingers but isn't unpleasant at all.

A splash of water helps prop the flavor profile up over the alcohol punch.

Not bad, not amazing. Probably not worth the $60 or $70 (I forget, exactly) price tag.
