Nice selection! I'd go with the Stagg Jr, always a winner on a cold winter evening.

The Smooth Ambler you have there on the top shelf, do you like it? A year ago or more I picked up a bottle and it didn't do anything for me so I pushed it to the back of the shelf, months later I tried it again. Wow, I couldn't finish it fast enough it was so good, not sure what changed .

I am in "have a backup bottle" territory for that particular one.

I haven't gone back to that one in a while honestly. It was one of my first purchases, and when I look at the proof compared to where I'm at now (Stagg, formerly Stagg JR lol), I feel like it would be a little bit of a let down honestly, which is kind of like how I feel after trying my Blanton's Takara Black. Maybe that will be the one I try next!

First time trying Old Elk Straight Rye Whiskey tonight. Got a double shot, neat, and I’m very impressed! I’ve never had Old Elk before, but I’m a fan.

I'm also an Old Elk fan, I have some store picks of their wheated that are very good. I also have their Infinity Blend but haven't cracked it yet... haven't tried the rye.

So I cracked it last night. I let it sit for at least 10 minutes as I watched the Sounders/CRapids opening minutes. It's got a great nose; Christmas spices, orange citrus, black pepper, leather... Mouthfeel is very thin. I was expecting something more.. voluptuous considering the age. Front end was reminiscent of the nose, with light Christmas spices, floral notes, some citrus, leather, etc - honestly pretty complex and well balanced until you get to the back end, which is mostly just pepper and astringency. In all fairness, sometimes allowing a bottle to sit for a few weeks after first opening tames things a bit. I might try it in a few weeks with a drop of water or something and see what that does. I do feel that water might bring out some more of the complexities.

It's got some good qualities but I wasn't overly impressed. Keep in mind I'm writing this from memory and am definitely missing a lot, but this is the gist of it.

Also I'm not a good writer OR a whiskey reviewer.

Recieved a suprise promotion today, good enough reason to crack this open. It was the #8.

Something I never would have given a second look, but the manager at the store I frequent suggested this, he even had a sample. Good nose, hits pretty hot up front, lots of pepper and spice but really good flavor for a 4 year old bourbon.

Well if your around Minneapolis, the Volstead House has an amazing selection of all whiskey types. It's a speakeasy type of establishment.

The whiskey list was at least 7 pages front and back. Finally tried Weller and am now officially pissed I cannot find it. Also the Dalmore Cigar Malt, glad I don't live close or I would be broke.

Also one of the best Old Fashioned outside of the Yard Bird in Vegas

My brother in law brought some of this to a family get together last summer, finally managed to find it locally. Probably one you guys in the Midwest can pick up any day, but next to impossible to find up in the NW.
