Tried this Starlight at the store where it seemed ok, not bad for $35 but trying it at home it doesn't have much of a finish.

I have the double oaked starlight. I cant stand it. It got bundled with a barrel strength four Rose's single barrel. It's a damn near a drain pour for me.

Scored this at Sam’s club today. The manager came and asked if I worked at Sam’s and I said no. He said ok. Employees apparently weren’t allowed to buy it. Anyway it was $29.98.

That’s an amazing price to me… our sin tax in Oregon is so high that bottle would cost me $50-$60…

Needed to add a cheap shelf. Wish I would have built the wall shelves put twice as deep.

I waited outside for 25 hours to be near the front of the line at the Austin bourbon drop. I’m very happy with all my bottles from today! Most of these are store picks too! The first person in line got an Old Rip and Old Fitzgerald. This was a fun experience and I meet a lot of great people while waiting. They had a full pallet of Stagg Jr, Weller Full Proof, Russell’s Reserve single barrel store picks! Some guys were lucky enough to get some Stagg Jr at 144.2 proof! Mine is 137.9

So, when they do a bourbon drop, are you allowed to buy whatever you want as long as they haven't run out already? any limit on quantities? and are they setting price points at 'market value', MSRP, or whatever the store feels like charging???

....just trying to get a feel for what other states are doin'

    Same questions lol.
I saw people camping out in Houston on Thursday. Can you tell me the true prices you paid for them? Just wanting to see if it’s worth it. It truly looked like high school girls waiting in line for a fan boy concert. I have never seen anything like it. The line went on for blocks and they estimated over 1200 people in line.

They sold everything at retail prices. This is the second year they have done this. They have all the bottles lined up on different sections. Some things you are only allowed to pick one of the bottles. Other stations you can choose all of the bottles on the table. You could only pick one from the Weller bottle of Single barrel or full proof. They only had 18 bottle of the single barrel and probably over 100 of full proof. They had over 300 of stagg Jr. They had over 6,500 bottles of harder to get bottles of bourbon for this drop.

Yikes.... I have to say waiting in line over night for Bourbon drop is definitely better than standing in line at Best Buy for $100 TV on black friday and plenty of people do that

It was a cool experience for sure. So many bourbon fans with some very generous bottles to share. Several Wellers, BTAC and store picks that people shared. So that was half of the fun hanging out and talking to other Bourbon enthusiasts.

My local people offered this to me for 150 vs shelf price of 250 so I grabbed it. It's really great on the nose and palate but the finish kind of takes an odd turn so I am not in love with this as much as say Weller 12 or even John J Bowman, they are consistent all the way through.

So, some food for thought regarding the bourbon 'phenomenon' and its trends in production, availability, and market pricing....

Buffalo Trace completed its 6,000,000th barrel in 2008... The time lapse between the 5,000,000th and 6,000,000th barrels was 27 years!

    upload_2023-1-2_11-2-21.jpg

It's 7,000,000th barrel was completed in 2018; only 10 years after the 6,000,000th. In other words production between the 2 milestones was almost tripled.

The 8,000,000th barrel was completed just a few days ago; only a little over 4 years after the 7,000,000th. Production rate between these 2 milestones was again increased. This time the milestone was achieved 2 1/2 times as fast as the previous milestone; or in other words, production of Buffalo Trace bourbon has increased over 6.5 times as it was being produced in 2008. At the same time 'market pricing' has continued to inflate at almost the same rate (and even more so for some of the more exclusive product). So when we pay 2, 3, 5 or even 10 times MSRP on a bottle of bourbon (I saw a bottle of Pappy 23 on the shelf in Coronado about 7 years ago for over $3,000) it's not because the product has become that rare but more so due to demand, trends and some creative marketing. Just something to think about....

    upload_2023-1-2_11-5-58.jpg

Also, new life goal: I need to get my hands on a bottle from one (or all) of these barrels... :D

I was there the day before they hit 8 million. They have a whole ceremony and roll it out across the property to its own single barrel rickhouse to age until they hit the next million.

I did find a bottle of 6 million available on Wooden Cork for a cool $8k

    That's awesome!!! New life goals!!!!

But, I've got to say $8k for a bottle is nuts and beyond my means...

I may be a bit of a purist when I say this, but I think bourbon was meant to be enjoyed and shared with family and friends. It wasn't meant to sit on a shelf or to be resold or auctioned off to the highest bidder. Even my best bottles (nowhere near that level) have been opened, poured, shared and enjoyed as I believe it was meant to be.
