I think we are screwed man. I’ve got a 2016 with the jbl system, severely under performs. I’m not a bass guy, I just want more clarity so I get frustrated with this thing.

Throw it away and get something aftermarket

I installed the alpine halo9 and it really woke the jbl speakers up

    Jide,
I did feel your pain and was not happy with a sound system that would sound good in a library. It seems from what I have read that the stock radio was good up until 2013 and I belive that Toyota found a cheaper supplier that make the current head unit. Any aftermarket HU will wake up the JBL sound system, I went with the Phoenix android head unit and am very pleased with the sound improvement and the bonus of the big screen. What I did like about Phoenix is that thay had a 30 day return policy and with some help from fellow tundra members the install was easy. https://www.tundras.com/threads/android-headunit.16037/
    Good luck with your search.

    You can:
    - change the subwoofer for a bit more bass: https://www.tundras.com/threads/now-closed-10-jbl-sub-box-from-tech12volts-group-buy.37273/
    - change the speakers for a little better sound all around: https://www.tundras.com/threads/upd...peaker-group-buy-valid-through-2-28-19.39104/
    - change the JBL amp
    - change the radio / head-unit

I did all except the amp. First I added the subwoofer and that made a big difference in the bass. Then I changed the speakers and noticed another improvement. Then I changed the head unit. It all just depends on your budget and how much you want to spend.
You can just change the head unit and keep the stock speakers and amp, but I would still recommend the sub woofer upgrade.
