I will be installing my speedmaster using the Lucas 85w-140 and I live in a cold climate.

Are you just doing the lsd or gears/lsd? It shouldn't have an issue but may have a slight mpg loss.

I’m just doing the LSD at this time. Not sure if I want to install the 5.29 gears.

Did you guys have to replace the oil seal and o-ring on the hub for the rear?

interesting. It didnt seem like there was enough slack in the brake line to leave it attached

Probably not worth the effort just to change those orings then, as long as they're in decent shape

We didn’t replace them when we did my Auburn 7 or so years ago. No leaks. But it would be cheap insurance if you decide to.

Heard back from Speedmaster concerning gear oil. Here is their response:

That’s good to know for those with the speedmaster, especially since I’ve read some say the 5.29s are more likely to make noise with the thicker oil. I think the speedmaster and powertrax are very similar units. I know there was speculation they had different number of gears, powertrax 3 and speedmaster 6 but as it turns out they both have 6.

I doubt you will have an issue running it in warmer climates. Maybe get some extra grippiness from it. But I guess you will have to run it and see, then tell us how awesome the Speedmaster is :)

That is interesting they stated 3 different gear oil weights on different emails with the same guy. Good he kept digging into it!
But like with the powertrax using a lighter oil will just reduce the response and be better for those in cold climates. @Lemuel1 has running it with 80/90 and reported no issues.

Got the front gears installed and running with no issues. Got 40 miles on them in 4wd. I did it like zuk and put the pinion shim behind the bearing and not the race. Came out perfect and easier swapping shims.
Ecgs bushing installed so the needle bearing removal tool from @VWTim is available whoever needs it.

He is! We talked for almost an hour on gears/toyotas' and doing different setups. Even asked to keep him updated on how it all works out. It was nice to have someone you could contact as he's seen it all.

You can notch the hard line so you can pull it out. Take the e brake cable support bolt out and you have about 10 inches to pull out. No need to take rotors off. Clean up where the o ring sits for a good seal. I've reused mine twice so far, no issues. I did this when I replaced my rear axle bearings.

It also says something when he’s not even doing your gears, he just wants to help! It sounds like you have a clue about gears, so that probably made it easier for him to explain everything. I have zero clues, that’s why I made the trek to see him.

That’ll be so nice if I can leave all that alone and zip out the 4 bolts per side for the hubs.

Here is an excerpt from the DIY re-gear sticky in performance threads. One thing is don't let it rotate as it can mess up the brake line. I used long zip ties through the axle bolt hole to the notched brake line support. I left enough slack to get 10 inches so they clear the carrier.

Funny thing - the box itself clearly started straight 140. But as you suspect, I’m sure it will work with various weights to varying degrees of lockup. I was trying really hard to convince myself that straight 140 would play nice with sub freezing temps..

We notched the bracket the same way. Works great. Glad you got a pic of it and posted about it.

What was interesting is zuk was saying to run 80/90 as there shouldn't be an issue as it is like the powertrax except with a preload.
I got that pic from a write up back in 2012 on tundratalk when I needed to do my rear axle bearing. I try to download tech write ups as it save time over the factory how to's...
That guy Joe at speedmaster was probably getting a bunch of emails and calls on the lsd. I put 500 miles on it with 80/90 and it was fine.
