On one hand, there is typically not any appreciable gear mesh in that spot.
But, you didn’t pay for damaged goods. I’d return them…

I ordered a Timken bearing kit for the rear. Got a good deal only it did not come with the shim kit. I spoke with Motive and confirmed the shims that come in their kit. Rear shims are SK44, SK23 and SK13. A front GM 9.5 shim kit works for the Toyota 9 IFS which include SK47 and SK13. I ordered the shims through Drivetrain America.
I'll confirm once the shims arrive. Also Dana 44 rear shim kit Motive 1115 works too. This is according to what is included in Motive and Yukon kits.

I just picked up some metal to fab up the clamshell holder for the press. I'm waiting on my rear bearings and 2 Toyota seals...

Do you have the details on the part numbers and good place to buy the necessary Toyota seals as opposed to the ones in the master kits?

Also, just looked at my front Yukon kit and it uses Nachi bearings that are made in Japan. Not sure how they are. I’ve used Nachi bearings before in large electric motors at work but this is a whole different application. Hoping they are of similar quality to Koyo or Timken…

Nachi Are good bearings. Guess they say "all japanese bearings are good".
Rockauto substituted a BCA bearing kit for the Timken I planned on. 2 pinion bearings are Koyo an carrier are NSK. Which I'm happy with.
I only ordered front/rear pinion seals and front drivers side from fred anderson with the sale. My local Toyota parts has some shims and seals if I need them. Deciding on Toyota fipg or that right stuff by permatex?
I wrote down a few items from Zuks website.

I checked with my local wrecking yard for used differentials; the yard is part of the car-part.com network, so I can search parts in other yards/states and have them shipped the wrecking yard for reduced or free freight.

I can get a front diff for ~$180, but the rear differential is only sold as a full unit - as in, entire rear axle. $1000. Darn. I was hoping to source a used set and rebuild them in the shop over the winter, then swap them when I have some downtime on the truck.

When I installed the Auburn it took me 5 hrs. Started at 10 when the kids wet to bed and buttoned it up at 3am. I'm hoping this time around it goes well and no issues. The front will take a bit longer...

Yes. Just swapping ring gear to Auburn and reusing the bearings. I probably would of been done sooner but my brake drums were being a PITA.

My brake drums were also being belligerent when we did the auburn years ago. My buddy pulled out the torch and heated up the outside of the drum for a minute until they made a distinct ‘TINK!’ sound. They slid off east peasy after that. Learned a new trick.

Shims for the rear pinion and carrier. Now I just need the lsd to arrive.
Edit: the shims will work but ID for pinion head are larger. Toyota shims will have tighter tolerances.
@carn_dogg after the break in period. I'll put the speedmaster through a beat down and see how it holds up.

When it blows apart, you won’t know if it’s the counterfeit speedmaster or discount gears. We can wager bets before you open it up.

Haha. The local gear shop likes Motive gears so hopefully it won't be that. The lsd will be interesting but I called a few places and left msgs. Emailed outlaw offroad that did @Lemuel1 gears and lsd to see their impressions. I'll have to find some cheap tires for my spare wheels to rip up as I'm not going to rip on new shoes...yet.:p

Yes. This is good to hear. I’m hoping for the best here. Gears should be quality and have a hard time believing the speedmaster is ass. Mine has yet to ship. I would think Monday at the earliest given holiday and weekend.

So far so good 250 miles down. Minor whine at low speeds. Got a little off-road today and locker worked amazing.

Is the whine when you let off and coast? Hopefully after some more miles and fluid change it will ease up.
Great to hear about the lsd!

What does whine at let off and coast mean? My regeared diff in my 350Z did that. Got used to it and never got worse, but was annoying.

Could be preload on Pinion is off a bit=loose. Or carrier is set a little tight to pinion or backlash if off a hair. Sometimes everything looks great but could use a little tweak to stop it. Most just live with it.

    Ok, rest of parts ordered.

    • speedmaster limited slip
    • Yukon master install kits front & rear

I got the front kit from Stage 3 for $489 and the rear kit from Amazon for $399.

There is an Outlaw Offroad in Nashville. I would love for them to do the install. If they can’t/won’t/whatever, maybe I’ll head to Atlanta to try that Outlaw shop based on @Lemuel1 ’s feedback.

Going to ask Outlaw if they know anyone near-ish who will cryo treat my gears first.
