Extended Warranty

I was trying to find documentation on the "disclaimers" or "gotchas" on the platinum extended warranty but not much is coming up. Has anyone had to use this before to where Toyota or the dealer inspected how often you did the maintenance or kept records? What are the requirements to ensure you get the coverage?

Most if not all Toyota stealerships record the entire process of the customer buying a vehicle. They said something to us while buying my daughters car and later they said just the opposite. What exactly it was I do not remember but they left us for quite a while, came back and asked me if I remember when they said it. I gave an estimate of when and where we were and boom! They got it on tape and honored it… whatever it was. I asked about the recording and they said they do that on every customer, training opportunity for employees.

Buying a 2024 Platinum at my local Toyota dealer. They offered me an 8yr 125,000mile warranty for $2400. That good or is there better offers folks are getting?

Has Toyota relaxed the whole selling warranties across state lines? I am seeing conflicting reports that you need to live in the same state or be physically at the dealership selling the warranty?

 

Some dealerships were limited to selling within their state only. This was due to issues raised to Toyota corp from other dealerships feeling they were undercut and losing revenue. The contacts provided here are not restricted and can sell to anyone within the US. To keep it that way we send the contact info through private message to stay under the radar.

 

New owner here of a 22 Platinum with about 1.5 years or 13k miles of the factory warranty left. Im looking to extend that so any leads are appreciated.

Just as a follow up for us Canucks, the dealer i chatted with in Canada (Alberta) the 30 days is just to include maintenance in the warranty - you are able to add warranty any time in the first 3 years, with a $150 "penalty" and you lose out on the maintenance package

 

Really? Do they happen have that in writing somewhere?

It has always puzzled me as to why Toyota USA can offer an extended warranty at any time within the first 3 years of ownership but in Canada you need to purchase the extended warranty within 30/31 days from the date of sale. It's a money grab by Toyota Canada for sure because you would be paying for a warranty you really don't need until the factory one runs out. Kind of goes along with all the vehicle configuration options they offer in the USA versus Canada. It know we are 1/10th of the market so most likely why we get the shaft. Boo Hoo for us Canadians.

 

Doing some research on the extended warranty before mine expires in 10k miles. If anyone has a good referral or POC for a rep that would be greatly appreciated.

 

Shop for these warranties ahead of time and bring the pricing with you to the dealer you are buying from. Either they will work with you or question how you got it for so much less (the F&I guy had no clue how I had the shopped around price)

actually it’s 3 years or 60k. Basically you have to,purchase ECP within the bumper to bumper warranty.

Toyota didn’t actually tell me the penalty. Is it 150 per year? What did they tell you?

 

you only have to purchase within 3D days,if you want the “free” service. Otherwise,you can purchase,ECP up until your 3m year / 60kmwarranty expires.

doesn’t matter when you,buy,ECP, it’s still an extention of the factory warranty.

 

I am not interested in the "free service" as nothing is free these days. I like to do my own oil changes, tire rotations and inspections. Unless it needs some work that I don't have tools for or the repair/inspection is beyond my technical comprehension then I will bring it in for service.

As far as ECP is concerned the longest you can get in Canada is 7 years/200,000 km. Toyota Canada shows that costs $4,919 CDN but I am sure you get if for less as certain dealerships across Canada. The 7 years starts immediately and it must be purchased no later than 31 days after you register your vehicle. See the note in small print at the bottom.

So if I already have a 3 years/60,000 km when I buy the truck the ECP is effectively only giving me 4 years/140,000 km extension. Would it not make more sense to wait just before the 3 years/60,000 km's expire and then buy the ECP so now you effectively have 10 years/260,000 km coverage. I'd probably pay for it then depending on the cost.

 

To my knowledge it just extends it to the total years and miles regardless of when you buy it. Its not additive to your current mileage. I read that somewhere but i have to find it.

if you buy the ECP at the same time you buy the vehicle, OR the day before the 3/60kmwarranty expires you will only get an additional 4,years/140k. ECP is essentially an extention of the factory warranty. It does not start when you buy it. The exceptions are the 4 year ECP which doesn’t really make any sense anyways.

im considering waiting simply to have more data available to determine if Toyota has figured out their issues.

That's not what my dealer told me. 31 days to make a decision, after that the ECP is no longer available. That's why if there is something in writing that disputes that I'd sure like to see it.

Waiting is probably a good thing if true.
