Extended Warranty

Hi, yes please negotiate - they have some wiggle room! Not nearly as good as the market in the US, but if you know your options you should be able to get a decent discount. I think the most anyone on this forum (from Canada) has noted is up to $1000 off when they were calling for quotes (and that was just quotes, no confirmed contract sold at $1000 off). When negotiating, just make sure you make them know you are not stupid and have 30 days to decide, and make sure you tell them you have shopped around - you don’t have to buy from the dealer. I was able to get $500 off on a 7yr/120km. I might have been able to do better if I had the patience to actually shop around, but from what I have read, $500 off is a fairly decent discount on a 7yr Canadian Platinum ECP. If you want the 160km, I wouldn’t accept anything less than about $600-$700 off. You can definitely make them feel like you are willing to walk and will just buy the warranty somewhere else.

I believe Toyota Platinum warranties can only be purchased during the original three year 36000 mile warranty period. Since you are beyond three years you may have to get an aftermarket warranty. When I worked at a new car dealership Zurich was one of the best aftermarket companies I worked with. They paid quickly and covered the most components.

Welcome to the forum. Likely depends on how long ago you made the purchase. If you bought it in the last week maybe. Beyond that not sure. I’d ask the finance manager where you purchased it.

This might be a stupid question, but the extended warranty says it kicks in AFTER your manufacturer warranty expires, but it also covers a lot of things on the list that aren’t covered by manufacturer, so does that mean all those extra things won’t be covered until 3 year/36,000 mile mark passes?

 

I just received my 10yr 125k warranty from one of the suggested sources. Smooth transaction, no issues. Email confirmation of all steps.

Just picked up my platinum truck on Friday and learning how to use it. I feel I need ‘R2D2’ in the back seat just to drive this x-wing fighter.

More switches and farkles to fu$k with just trying to change the radio station!

Can you share an example where the base warranty does not cover what the extended warranty does?

 

Sorry if it wasn’t clear, I meant extended warranty covers extra things that aren’t covered by manufacturer warranty. In the pamphlet it’s in black letters for manufacturer coverage and red letters for extended platinum coverage. So let’s say an item that is in red, that is covered only by the extended warranty breaks. Will it be covered right away or only after the 3 yr 36,000 miles time when the manufacturer warranty expires?

 

I read the warranty differently. The items listed in black and red font are covered by the base warranty 3yr/36k. The items in black font are covered by the power train warranty 5yr/60k.

The extended warranty covers both black and red font items for the length of the extended warranty. For example I bought the 10yr/125k warranty. So the items in black and red fonts are covered for $10yr/125k.

The dealership I got mine from has the lifetime warranty which covers major things, I wonder if it would be worth paying more for an extended warranty. Anyone know when I have to buy the extended warranty by? Below is what is covered now for a "lifetime":

• • Engine: Cylinder block and head and all internal parts, intake manifold, timing gears and gaskets, timing chain/belt and cover, flywheel, valve covers, oil pan, oil pump, engine mounts, turbocharger housing and all internal parts, supercharger housing and all internal parts, engine control computer, water pump, fuel pump, seals and gaskets.

• • Transmission & Transaxle: Case and internal parts, torque converter, clutch cover, transmission mounts, transfer case and all internal parts, engine control computer, seals and gaskets.

• • Front Wheel Drive System: Final drive housing and all internal parts, axle shafts, drive shaft, constant velocity joints, front hub and bearings, seals and gaskets.

• • Rear Wheel Drive System: Axle housing and all internal parts, propeller shaft, u-joints, axle shaft, drive shaft, bearings, supports, seals and gaskets.

the limited powertrain warranty is the oem factory warranty.

i deal with this all the time. one pot of money to pay for emergency repairs and another pot to pay for normal repairs.

so i am guessing toyota is doing the same thing so they can get metrics to up the pricing yearly.
