Thanks, I was able to get that 3 yr/36k warranty magically turned into a Toyota 10yr/100k $0 deductible platinum one for $1800. Funny how the games get played in them finance offices.

They really really lied to you. The 3/36k warranty already comes with your truck included as standard warranty, and they had the guts to charge you for it??

I would cancel the warranty with this dealer just for this exact reason - one thing they try to overcharge you, but here they sold you nothing and charge you for it. I'm sure Jerry will give you a better price for this 10/100k warranty anyway, and it would be a good way to stick it to this shady finance guy

So did I get screwed. I bought the extended warranty for 4675 when I purchased my truck. I think it was the Zurich comp plan. Covers up to 100000 miles. Think I’m past the 30 days. It’s Ben about a month and a half. I think I’m Callie tomorrow and canceling. And if I would be appreciated do they don’t try and give me the run around.

Of course they'll give you a run around, but don't give up, be firm, it's your right to cancel it. Worst case they should refund you whatever is left on your warranty, which is 99%

Did you end up getting the warranty changed through your dealer, or go through one of the contacts recommended here?

It's completely asinine that the games my finance guy played were flat out lies. I thought I did my due diligence by asking questions to confirm whether I can purchase the warranty later on. I wish I recorded the entire conversation.

Call your finance guy and demand he canceled the warranty. He should be able to refund you full amount into your car loan account so it'll pay it down a bit.

Then contact Jerry to order this warranty again at a much lower price

Thanks Kap - part of me wants to just call the Toyota customer service number on the contract because I will have a hard time keeping it professional with the lying finance manager, but I also think they deserve to be called out on their BS tactics.

I did. It was switched to a platinum 10/100k 0 deductible. Still overpaid a bit as the loan was already funded. But It’s not worth the hassle to me to have money tied up everywhere to save a few hundred bucks.

they def shouldn’t have played the games they did and their review, which they are begging for 5 stars, will reflect that. They back peddled like crazy when I called them out for selling me a warranty that was not a Toyota one at an absurd price that doesn’t cover anything.

It's a shame because I honestly walked out of that dealership feeling pretty good. For me, it's about having the full 10 yr coverage for the same price (if not less than) I paid for the 8 yrs.

In your case, it sounds like they really tried screwing you with the 3 yr warranty. I understand that commissions is part of their job, but I feel really bad for the unsuspecting folk who fall for the first BS offer they get. When you do get a "good" deal, they always tell you to keep it hush. SMH...

I hear you. I didn’t feel great about the warranty to begin with. I feel better now but likely won’t use that dealer for anything again.

I know Toyotas are reliable (particularly the 5.7 Tundras) and the chances of exceeding the cost of an extended warranty over paying out-of-pocket are unlikely. Still, I went ahead and got the Toyota Platinum warranty coverage and I am going to enjoy the piece of mind. After all, I kept my first Tundra over 19 years (until a couple drunk drivers destroyed her)

My 2020 Tundra factory warranty expires on Jan 22nd. I live in Washington State (10.2% sales tax). [After recommendations on this forum] Just spoke with Jerry at Midwest Toyota and extended my factory warranty out to 100,000 & 10 years. It’s a Toyota Platinum warranty zero deductible. Jerry is the guy! Plus, you don’t pay any sales tax.

PM me if you need his contact info.

@TacomaLC - could you redact all the identifying information? I was told to limit it to PMs as much as possible.

Otherwise I do agree with you, he's the man!

If it's not Toyota Extracare (TFS/Platinum) or JM&A (fidelity) then it's a non-toyota warranty and generally miss the mark at some point on cost, coverage, or overall customer service.

As a service advisor dealing with those two companies are great to work with as other companies 100% will give you (or your advisor) the insurance company run around to wiggle out of repairs, especially on bigger ticket items.

TFS and Fidelity by far have shown me they have the best coverage possible, not to mention ease of claims.

Anyone buying certified used...you can upgrade the 100,000 7yr powertrain to a Platinum TFS Wrap (comprehensive to blanket with the Powertrain) for the best coverage and price in case you are in that situation. You can start to see low mileage used Tundras and if they are within a few grand of a new one, it's the value of the certified warranty over MSRP and should take that added value into a positive consideration.

Here is the basic info without any dealership contact. This is what you expected to pay for VSA.

@TBS, would it be possible for you to send me the information for the extended warranty? Picking up my 2023 Platinum tomorrow, I did all the paper work remotely as i am getting it from a different city. I paid 5k for a 6yr 100k, but i though i was getting a bad deal and have been looking around. I going to cancel it when i pick it up.

    Thanks for any help!

Dealerships will start lightening up on markups and invoice only stances. I think a lot of people think the negotiation is over by the time you're with the finance manager. I think $4500-$5000 is well worth it but I would say very high end of what I've seen. A person might be a buyer and see the value at $4000 let's say....I'd make that part of the conversation, no discount on the truck? Ok, well, we can offer you a break on that. Everyone wins. "60% of something is better than 100% of nothing".

I can only imagine, how none of that will be a factor if that huge computer in the dash worth $8k+ glitched at 38k miles..... I've seent it.

If you feel your dealership is fleecing you, I would rethink who you're going to have for "after the sale" care. If the professionalism or care given doesn't reflect the money you're spending, then going somewhere else with your business is the only logical thing to do while in an Emotional high right? Smokey burnouts make any situation feel good so there's always that.

    good luck to all.

I read through the thread, but after purchasing the Tundra SR5 4x4
6 year/85k mile Prepaid Maintenance $1725, and 7 year/75k mile Mechanical Breakdown $2550. Still not sure if this is a fair deal.

Problem with the 75K and 85K is the years become irrelevant for most drivers. I mean just offer 100 year/75,000 mile, it looks good but you're paying a huge sum for 39,000 miles. I got the 8 year/125,000 mile for $1375 but that was on a 2019 so all the kinks have been worked out. Remember to subtract 36,000 miles from any warranty you purchase since that's already been paid for when you bought the truck.

Just signed for a 2023 LMT. Interest rate locked. It’s in transit. Dealer is already wanting to talk about service options and VSA. Wondering if I should just wait until 35.5K to buy a platinum VSA after shopping around for lowest price? Would the 10 years start then or when vehicle is new? Not looking forward to the finance meeting regarding VSA. I guess financing the cost is why most get it when new and not just b/f 36K?

This is a bad deal, get a quote from Jerry and cancel the one you bought.
Did you even get the official Toyota warranty or a 3rd party? I through that Toyota maintenance maximum is 5 years, how did you get 6 years?

Get a quote from Jerry and ask your finance guy to match it, if they can't then don't buy it from them.

How did they lock in the interest rate while they don't even have the truck yet? That's some shady dealer tactics... I don't think they can lock in anything until you sign the contract, they run your credit and they have truck ready for you to pickup. Are they charging you high interest rate?
