Meh. The raptor is neat and all as an exercise but you’ll be irritated when it’s breaks all the time.

Couldn't you get the ford, sell it for a profit, then get another Tundra to build the way you want?

You got a 20k price difference if im reading that right. Either way that's a big chunk of change.

    -one touch up/down windows
    -push button start
    -auto high beam
    -windshield de-icer

-road edge detection, lane trace assist
    -bicycle/pedestrian detection
    -blindspot monitoring
    -rear cross traffic alert
-8" tablet HU with CarPlay/Android Auto

Saw one of those Fords the other day, Fugly if you ask me, like they bolted every piece of plastic the kids would want on their Transformer on it. But if it rocks your boat and you can afford it (and you have that spare vehicle to get around in when it's in the shop) I say go for it. I snuck around the D and F truck forums and read about all the issues after seriously wanting the F truck maybe 4 years ago. Talked myself out of it because my old Tundra was still doing just fine. Money in my pocket. Well, ended up with another Tundra and and I'm good. The leather seat is breaking in quite nicely and I just need a better set of AT tires if I can make up my mind on which. I LIKE the chrome (I admit I am an old fart) and don't want to drive around in Darth Vader's helmet. But that's ME, not you. You should do what makes you happy if you can afford it.

Ford has reliability issues and I never even consider them no matter how “cool” anything they make I won’t change my mind, yea the raptor is nice but not practical unless you are constantly out in the desert speeding through rough roads, other than that people buy them for attention. I really wanted a 2013-2014 Land-cruiser, but my truck is almost paid off and the thought of having extra money to mod my truck to be better than a raptor and have no debt is better, don’t be a slave to debt or temptation. If you don’t need it, then no, needs are more important than wants.

Well, I just got done talking to my neighbor who has a 2018 lead poop grey raptor. I left a note on his truck this morning, he called me to come pick me up for a spin!
He explained the “raptor fever” and how he bought his. Went through all the bells n whistles on his truck and most importantly...the cons.

    He paid $78k before taxes.
He wouldn’t reveal his payment, he paid over MSRP, and got hosed on finance.

    Average mpg is 15.8

Rear moonroof window leaked during the rains we had 2 months ago.

Tech takes a while to learn, you pretty much need a training class to navigate through all the menus and info available. Trailer assist is kinda scary to watch...

In 10 months of ownership he’s been to dealer 4 times. 1 time for scheduled service other 3 were for truck issues, moon roof leak, sync 3 freezing up and crackly speaker.
His advice was wait until after the 2020 model year is released then get a deal on a 2018, plenty of those sitting around on dealer lots.

So....I’ve crunched numbers every which way, 60 months is my limit, I can’t justify a 6,7 or 8! Year payment schedule. Monthly is gonna be $887- 933 depending on what I would get for Tunny. I think its a great truck and I’ll probably buy one someday but the sobering reality is, I would be stressing making a $900+ payment for another 5 yrs. I would have to work even more (already do 55-60hrs/wk at main job plus I teach 6hrs/wk and have a side hustle 10hrs/wk) just to have something sit unused in the driveway catching dust...

The only things in that list I'd want is the one touch up/down windws. Everything else is a gimmick that doesn't need to be on a pickup truck imho.

I've already decided that when I do replace my 1st gen, the newest year of Tundra I'll consider is 2017. I don't want that TSS nonesense, at least until there's a way to permanently disable or remove it.

Actually I'm fine living without all that stuff either, I'm non TSS and prefer it, the only thing in that list is heated steering wheel, feels so good in my wife's Lexus on sub freezing days. But summer's coming now, ya baby!

    Random update,
Neighbor stopped by last night. He is planning to sell his 2018 Raptor, asking $65k He owes...$58k. Variety of reasons, some mechanical (now resolved) some personal, mostly financial. Still wouldn’t reveal his monthly payment... Truck has full service history and extended warranty protection.
Hated telling him that new 2020’s 802A can be bought outta state for $67k+ 1300 delivery to my driveway. Feel kinda bad for him, lotta guys
Bought into the raptor fever and over paid. Now the gen2 resale ain’t looking so good, especially in SoCal.

If I owed 58 grand on a Ford, the last thing I'd do is tell anyone I paid that much (or more). Id keep that secret to my death.

For that kind of money, why not build your own? A new Tundra with a supercharger will cost far less, have a warranty and will leave money in your pocket for tires, suspension, hooked or whatever else you could possibly need.

An easy way to test out those payments you were considering: Pay your regular truck payment, but make sure you have enough to put into savings to make it feel like that Raptor payment. Do this for 6-10 months. At the end of it, you will know if you are willing to make those payments, and if you decide you want to, you will have a nice little nest egg for the down payment/taxes/plates. If you decide you don't want that kind of payment, you are still left with the savings bump and can either keep if for a rainy day, or buy mods/pay down what you owe on your tundra.

    Exactly.

I plan to pay off Tundra 18 months early and continue upgrading, Audio build, 37’s + 5.29 gears+ Harrop E locker, Harrop Supercharger and finally stretch to 6.5ft bed. I’ll have a practical daily driver/side job truck + it will keep up with most stock Raptors.
