If the mass push to EV's is going to work, that'll need to happen. And were 15 years behind.

“…the average model year (MY) 2021 EV would cost $48,698 more to own over a 10-year period without $22 billion in government favors given to EV manufacturers and owners. … Adding the costs of the subsidies to the true cost of fueling an EV would equate to an EV owner paying $17.33 per gallon of gasoline. And these estimates do not include the hundreds of billions more in subsidies in the Inflation Reduction Act (2022) for various aspects of the EV supply chain, particularly for battery manufacturing.”

“Nearly $22 billion in federal and state subsidies and regulatory credits suppressed the retail price of EVs in 2021 by an average of almost $50,000.”

Source: study from non-partisan 501(c)3 research institute.

“It is important to emphasize that the total subsidy per EV calculated by this study, $54,778, is actually a conservative estimate given the assumptions made and the items we excluded...”

    Pondering this....

If Tesla is the only successful EV maker, how long before weird shit start happening?

    I suspect:
    1. a plan is afoot to hamstring Tesla
    2. or Gov will turn against EV's

you can feel the worm turning on Wind....Solar is next.

Nope. They'll keep the subsidies going to get the manufacturers deep into it, then pull the rug on them and bailouts will include taking control. Guberment always wants control. First it's a toe in the door, to "help" and then it's them deciding what kind of drapes you can hang.

I’d say both, but definitely #2. But not Gov turning against EVs as much as simply slowly and steadily reducing the completely unsustainable and frighteningly massive subsidies that are currently in place, probably once a target % of households with an EV is met.

From the above link (source is nonpartisan 501(c)3 nonprofit btw):
