As much as I usually enjoy being right, I don't like this. Not at all. The fact that I can say that, and it's just accepted and basically common knowledge. Is the writing on the wall really that clear? Are we truly that close to the shitshow?

why doesn't the media talk about how advanced the Plaid carbon wrapped motors are? they are YEARS ahead of every other unit.

 

I believe this is solely due to politics, which I cannot discuss. Elon ruffles feathers, and doesn't toe the company line, so they'd rather see him fail/be silenced than admit the truth. Just shows that being green is not the actual goal.

 

Just yesterday, I was talking cars with a guy I work with, and Tesla came up. Told him I test drove one, and while there is a slight learning curve, I thought it was light years beyond any other EV. My friend is a MASSIVE car and tech nerd. But he hates Elon. He said "That guy is a real piece of work. I'll NEVER buy anything with his name on it."

Lol. Come on man. I mean, most people in my industry sit to the left of the media, so I get wanting to signal your bonafides for self-preservation, but everyone parroting literally the safest position on any topic is how we got into this mess.

 

Don't get me wrong, I am not a huge Elon fan. That doesn't change the fact, that's right FACT, that what you said is true. I have no interest in personally owning an EV, but I do like to watch tech advance and unfold. If I were ever to get an EV, Telsa is the only one I'd even remotely entertain. I still think they are too expensive but they are also the only EV that has an established record. Warts and all, Telsa is the market leader.

 

for all those Tesla haters...it's all fun and games till my wife shuts them down at the red light.

I was pondering our wind noise comments few posts back.

imagine how loud a ICE has to be to threaten the Tesla performance (plaid).

you have to roll up to the red light with at least 1200hp. 1200hp ICE is loud.

Bugatti Chiron may be kinda quiet, until you hit the skinny pedal.
Ferrari - well, they ain't competitive...maybe the Pista...but, it's LOUD.
Hellcat 170? not competitive.
Koennigsig? loud. and can't fit groceries in it.

 

Elon is out there, for sure.

but if one says they don't like him as a CEO...you have to ask them to compare and contrast him to the other big auto CEO's.

Yeah, I was thinking of the noise. Closest I can compare it to is my LX. That thing is like driving a bank vault. Every faint interior sound is amplified because it shuts out the noise from outside the vehicle so well.

I'm also no Elon fanboy, but I appreciate his talent, his ability to innovate, and the apparently controversial idea that people should be allowed to speak their mind in what is the biggest public arena on Earth.

 

It's actually some of his business decisions I don't like. Removing radar for one. Absolutely no reason for it other than to cut costs, IMO. I think it was a bit reckless, and he is very cavalier about it. I believe some of his decisions are fueled by arrogance that comes from his rock star status. That said, he's done well growing the company.

 

and he took away the custom horn about a month after we got the car!

maybe that was D.O.T. but....it's gone.

and remember when you could make it sound like a cammed Hellcat?....gone.

 

I don't follow enough to get the details like that. Weird that it was dropped, though. Probably cheaper without the external speakers for engine sounds. Also, likely trying to preserve the quiet EV image.

 

Not surprised. GM can't compete so they get big daddy guberment to kneecap the competition. Didn't work, and GM is still trash for EVs.
