Yep. I always thought black would be free (never has) as it’s a PITA to keep clean. I love my blue, but next one will be the new Ultra Red that only comes on S/X models unless a newer color is out that is appealing by the time I upgrade (prob a couple of years or so)

    Looked into this more, and this is the best explanation I could find;

This is a non- refundable credit. Here is an example of non refundable tax credits. Tax liability is 4,500 but your withholding form your W-2 is 5,000. You would get a refund of 500. If you buy a Tesla which gets you a max of 7,500 non-refundable credit. You would only qualify for 4,500 because that’s your tax liability meaning your refund would now be 5,000 rather then 500.”

Whatever this forum told me to do
    I'll add:

most EV's charge at night...when wind & solar are well...not avail.

so, we will have to spool up (at night) more O&G Gen-sets to feed these EV's. because at night...overall KW usage is historically lower than daytime.

So most EV's will be PRIMARILY powered by fossil fuels.

    the hypocrisy is unbelievable.

It's a grift. just like Solar panels.

The rest of the country needs more hydroelectric power plants, the OG renewable energy source. :muscleflexing:

I wonder what % of taxpayers don't qualify for this credit because they make too much?

and why would you deny them this credit? EV benefits should be available to all.

This will quickly devolve into "who pays for these credits?"

There are many out there who believe an EV heavy society is sustainable on top of our other uses with renewables if we just build enough windmills and install enough panels. I live in PA. Over the Winter I think this past year we got a message that there was a risk of outages in a specific time frame over about 12-18 hours at the peak of a cold stretch that wasn't actually that bad, due to gas shortages from over use. Everybody was encouraged to dial things back wherever they could manage just for that night.

I remember the polar vortex from 8-9 years ago when we had an extended period of single digit temps with everybody's heat cranked for a few weeks. 0-10 degrees every day. Don't remember seeing that text back then.

We are an energy producing state. I don't recall ever getting that text from the power company in my adult life. Not in heat waves or cold snaps. Now we're getting it in a brief cold snap where I think temps may have bottomed out at worst in the 20s or high teens for a bit. Actually, not far off a typical swing for a normal Winter here.

I can't help but wonder if there was an actual power shortage at risk at that particular time or if they were putting it out there to get people used to hearing that warning. Numb them to idea of rationing power in extreme weather events because there's people who know that's coming relatively soon. The grid is not where it needs to be to do what we are going to start asking it to do unless people volunteer lifestyle changes to significantly cut consumption. Start to break people in gently and get them used to the idea now. When it's real most of them willingly run to the dial and turn it to where they're told to without asking why they suddenly started having to do it on a regular basis.

    Agreed

    they trained us:
    not to use cash
    Not to use certain words
    To accept certain debauceries
    To Love debt
To believe man can change the temperature of a planet

weaning us off the autonomy of all
The power we need does not seem such a
    Stretch

Correction: this is what they are preaching.

In the meantime, if I ran my battery down to sub 10% (don’t think I’ve ever been below 40% lol) it would cost me maybe $10 “fill it up” at my convenience, at home.
Now, I don’t drive it a whole lot or even daily…but still…I’ve spent $149 in over a year that I’ve owned it in electricity.

    From Kiplinger:
'Another New EV Credit Rule Coming in 2024. Another new rule is that if you’re buying a clean vehicle, you will have the option, beginning in 2024, to take the EV tax credit as a discount at the time you purchase the vehicle.
Essentially, you would be transferring the credit to the dealer, who would be able to lower the price of the vehicle by the amount of the credit. This means that you won’t have to wait until it’s time to file your tax return to benefit from the electric vehicle tax credit.'

well, the UK is feeling the economic crunch of wind assets.

and then we add in subsidies....well, the subsidies are not enough. they need more.

at some point, one has to "call the ball". wind don't work as a primary/reliable/efficient method of power production.

also - not a single free market has implemented wind and/or solar. it has all been Gov sponsored.

(For the record - Since I'm in the Great State of Texas, my Tesla is powered by Natural gas.)

In a press release, the organisation argued the Government should “reject the self-serving demands” because the U.K. economy should not be expected to continue to subsidise a sector “that is still uneconomic after nearly 20 years of above-market prices and guaranteed market share”.

“The wind experiment has failed and must be wound down,” it adds.

If that does in fact become true, many will hold out as a result.
With our crazy market, it’ll be interesting to see if the prices shoot backup before then

yup, if the dealer gets the EV credit, you can be damn sure they will manipulate the price of the vehicle.

I'd like to point out one of the great mis-directions of the age of big government.

"subside" is really tax money, or inflated money (created from thin air), that governments direct to their corporate sponsors. It's one of their many ways of fleecing the sheeple.

Your point about "government sponsored" is correct. Except the majority of politicians are basically puppets for their corporate sponsors.

Yeah, I'll be keeping a close eye on prices.

I'll play devils advocate though; the ev credit already exists and Tesla dropped prices dramatically knowing that. In this economy/market I don't see them shooting back up.
Cars are ready right now if you want one! Way different when prices were sky high.
