With this economy, you never know. I would take advantage of the tax credits while you can. The MYLR is probably best fitting for you...add the acceleration boost (I think its $2k?) when you can.

Does anyone here know how the $7,500 credit works exactly?

I know they have to verify your income so I would guess that happens after you order and before delivery?

I thought the credit was taken off when you file taxes.

I figured I'd chime in with my Tesla and Tundra garage. We're a two Tesla family with a Model 3 Performance (mine) and Model X long range (wife's). Love the cars. No range anxiety. The X can go 350 easy before needing to charge, but when we do we make it a 30 minute break for food and mother nature's relief. Works out well, and today it cost us $26 and 30 minutes for a 250 mi range addition on the X. The M3P is my daily driver, lowered on Ohlins coilovers, MPP camber arms, toe arms, and UCAs, Z06 Brembo front BBK upgrade with GiroDisc rotors, SS lines, forged 19x10 wheels with 275 tires to hug the roads. Love the thing 0-60 in about 3 seconds, and it's the best car I've ever driven. I'll get about 280 miles of range with 90% initial battery down to roughly 5% to 10%. Trips from MA to NJ are no issue since I'm likely to need to stop and pee midway. We certainly don't miss the ICE vehicles we traded in for these EVs. What used to cost me 600 ish per month (2015 Highlander) in gas is now 250 per month.

Still, I always wanted a Toyota truck, and originally looked for a gen 2.5 Taco. Prices are stupid for those, so I opened up the search for the gen 2.5 Tundra and found my 14 DC. It's our beach, bike, and home improvement shuttle, so it's not doing much long hauling at the moment, but that might change if we decide to tow a camper (the X can only tow 5k lbs, but we haul bikes on family trips with the hitch rack).

The truck has its purpose in our garage. I love it differently compared to my Tesla. The 3 is like driving a go kart - fast, tight, snappy, exhilarating. I set it up for the occasional track day. The truck is fun to drive as a hauler and off roader. I'm in the process of modding it to my liking (mostly with factory parts). I walk away from both cars looking back, admiring them equally.

Nice fleet! Got a picture of the X?

From what I've seen the credit is given at time of purchase, I just don't know the details on how it works.

I realized that the only photos I have of it are from the day we picked it up, and when I snap photos of my M3P next to it. Lol

It's stock aside from convex mirrors, so it doesn't get as much love from me. Plus, my wife curbed 2 rims :(

Beautiful machine though. My only gripe with Tesla is how they change things randomly. The missing ultrasonic sensors on new models is a head scratcher. Glad we got ours before then.

I'm really excited to see where EV trucks go. The torque on tap is incredible. Maybe I'll be in a Taco TRD Pro in a few years.

    Found this:

    https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/...ry-electric-vehicle-that-saves-you-money-now/

"How do I claim the EV tax credit?

To claim the tax break, known as the Qualified Plug-In Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit, you will need to file IRS Form 8936 with your tax return.(You will need to provide the VIN for your vehicle.)
You can only claim the credit once, when you purchase the vehicle. In addition, it is a nonrefundable tax credit, which means will not receive any balance beyond the point at which your tax liability is reduced to zero."

So, it looks like you get up to the full tax credit so long as you owe that much or more in taxes.

    Good find, thanks.
This was also on there for anyone else interested.
"Starting in 2024, the credit can be implemented at the point of sale as "cash on the hood," meaning you can apply it toward the purchase price of your vehicle."

I’m in the electric transmission industry (power lines). What has held me back from getting an EV is that the grid and infrastructure is not even close to being ready to support electrification of vehicles.

Every month it seems like we are bidding on a solar, BESS or wind project right next to a recently decommissioned coal or natural gas plant. The problem is that many of these replacements are not the same capacity as the original plant and the replacement is not dispatchable.

With the growth of everything being electrified and shutting down all of our dispatchable fossil fuel plants, it is a recipe for future rolling brownouts. Also, a lot of these newer projects are facing major supply chain and funding problems. IE, they won’t be done in time. 80+ week lead times on breakers is a bad sign.

This doesn’t even address the aging transmission and distribution infrastructure that isn’t ready to support the growth.

Anyway, something to chew on before jumping in the EV game…you may not be able to

Especially the aging transmission infrastructure. It seems to be a chicken and egg situation. That infrastructure may get upgraded quicker as more folks adopts EVs.

    Almost like it's intentional?

Or "they" intend for there to be a lot of less of us on the earth.

    Thanks for opining.

I have MSM. Holding up well after 4 years. I sometimes park next to new MSM 3s or Ys to see how mine has faded
