can these things take off my catalytic converter covers and do a drain and fill?

If not, musk needs to keep working on them

Disasters, like the one in Florida, highlight that the US is not ready for the EV market. In a Grid down situation like the one they have now it would be impossible to move trucks and other equipment around. Gas is the only thing saving people down there right now.

    agreed.

    EV's are inherently O&G powered.

Wind & Solar are fundamentally unreliable.

however - never race a MS Plaid.

Lithium batteries are useless without O&G.

    ponder that.

Went offroad with a rivian this weekend. It is surely a nice vehicle and surprisingly capable off road.

Very cool! A lot of ground clearance and instant torque - makes for a great off road rig. Just difficult to charge it when you're deep off the beaten path.

Your Tundra looks awesome too. Love that bumper with the big rounds lights!

    ditto.

It probably does truck things better than the EV's at Ford & GM.

This is great. I like having a alternate job opportunities. Auto industry was pleasant enough to provide programmers with more work. On a serious note I would be beyond pissed at 115k that thing should be bullet proof. Please don't have me beta testing bad vehicle software.

LOL, take that and compare to how many ICE vehicles are on fire - daily.

"Overall, EVs were about 0.3% likely to catch fire, while gas cars were 1.05% likely to ignite. That should be good news for EV owners, but as the AutoinsuranceEZ report points out, car fires are dangerous no matter the cause.J"

"A recent study conducted by AutoInsuranceEZ using data from the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) showed that electric cars in the US caught fire at a rate of 25.1 per 100,000 sales compared to 1,530 for ICE vehicles and 3,475 for hybrids"

A couple of sources here, but here is one of them.

Oh man, that reminds me of the Ford F150's in the early 2000's. Personally saw quite a few of them "spontaneously combust"

have y'all seen the MEGA Watt chargers these trucks will need?

good lawd. imagine the electron traffic.

and these will charge at night...when wind & solar are dead.

and the main difference is....the fleet owners will have to buy them. I can't see Tesla buying these for customers or providing a charging station.

and how much is one of them? I reckon about $250k each...plus a the utility connection.

just not feasible unless you have a fleet like Pepsi. even then....doing that much Cap-x at the present interest rates is nasty.

    that's my quandary.

Pepsi will need the Megawatt chargers on site. it's not feasible otherwise.

those chargers are MEGA expensive. they put out 3X the juice of a regular supercharger.

ponder the Amp draw when 6 of those trucks plugs in...

500 miles range with no load and 72 degree outside temperature. 100 mile range with 42,000lbs in the trailer and 20 degrees outside

Don't get me wrong, I am all for EV's (Duh, I own one). But from everything I have seen with the Rivians and Lightnings hauling with medium sized trailers, I can't see an EV semi truck being feasible with current technology and infrastructure. At least for long hauls, we certainly aren't setup for that. I can see these types of trucks working in distribution centers and short hauls (last stop hauls). It'll be interesting to see how these work out for the first companies buying them!

agree - we are thinking the same
even if these Semi's ran dedicated lanes - like distribution and such....the chargers would have to be on-site @ last stop.

    more thoughts:

if you use Tesla owned mega chargers you will pay 3x the market electron rate.

if you buy your own fleet chargers...the Cap-X would kill you.
