As long as you use a heat reflecting, not absorbing, tint you’re good.

I didn’t do mine because I like the way it looks. I did 50% windshield and 5% all other windows.

This is exactly what my shop told me. They said they won’t go more then 50% ceramic and would prefer to stay at 70%. But to come back and talk to them with their actual tint installers.

I wouldn’t want that much darker than factory as I like the visibility through it.

I just got the Sequoia done today. Windshield went 70%. This is my first time with a tinted windshield. If I like it on the Sequoia, I may steal your setup for the Y.

Hey, I know you all are on different subjects now, but I hope you do not mind me leaving my thoughts about the original topic. My wife and I decided to change our family car situation over the next few years. Phase I was trading my Tacoma for a Tundra so we could tow and haul the family on special occasions. It is my daily driver, but daily is misnomer. I do not have to drive alone much more than twice per week for work. And that makes the Tundra gas mileage somewhat bearable.

My wife, on the other hand, drives a lot hauling children everywhere. We have a large family and frequently haul our kids and their friends to sports, ballet practice, and other things. Accordingly, we will be looking for something more fuel efficient for her in the next few years, but seating space is a must. A friend let us test drive her white Rivian R1S (like the one in the picture below, but not that exact car).

All I can say is I can see why Rivian's unit cost is $130k. It was an amazing vehicle that feels like a luxury Land Cruiser, but more powerful.

For the fun of it, we also test drove a Model X. Driving the Tesla felt like driving a spaceship with the Back to the Future doors and buttons for everything. Material-wise the Tesla felt cheaper than the Rivian, but it was still very nice.

The flaw with both vehicles are the eye-watering prices. A two motor Rivian like the one we looked at would be $75k+ after the tax credit. And the Model X would be $85k with no applicable tax credit since it's not available for the seven seat model.

I am excited for the electric car future, but right now there are too few options at manageable prices for large families like mine. Right now, the best family haulers are still minivans (sigh). But maybe those will get cooler.

The Rivian SUV is a proper looking SUV.

    I'd drive one.

I drove a Honda Odyssey for years when my kids were young. Power sliding doors and a DVD player were pretty awesome. Thing also had tons of room in the back when we had double stroller and similar stuff to haul around.

Here is an interesting thread on X. Dude took his family on a 3600-mile road trip in their Model Y. He logged energy costs the entire way. His final cost came out to $0.12/mile. At a current national average of $3.50/gal for gasoline, you’d only need to get 30mpg to beat this guy’s numbers with his Model Y on the same roadtrip. He also says Supercharging alone (he also had some free charging and L2 charging along the way, which were factored into his final energy cost) ate up 11 hours of time on their trip.

we've spoken to similar topics of supercharging costs....which generally run $.31/kwh

home charging is around $13/kwh...some of ya'll pay ~.$04/kwh

I think the number even out around $.40/kwh based on a constant gas price.

Interesting how electricity prices keep going up in strong correlation to the amount of $ we dump into "green" power alternatives.

Yeah, home charging is where it’s at. It can still make sense to have an EV for around town and an ICE vehicle for long trips.

Rising energy costs make sense. Demand is increasing, even if we ignore what’s coming directly from consumers. We probably need to have a serious talk about AI.

I also still wonder when/how these EV subsidies will run out and if ever-increasing energy demands will play a role to hasten their expiration.

Not great but if that's worse case scenario, not bad either.

A fun and quick suv for low $40k's that gets 30 mpg; probably why it's the best selling car in the US.

I don't think we're anywhere near "worst case scenario" with EVs. Yet, lol. Unless your charging comes from the sun, cost per mile is based on parameters outside the end-consumer's control, just like with gasoline. Except it's a utility that can easily be shut off, unlike gasoline. Seems to me, as the demand for kwhs increases, the more expensive it will get. It wouldn't take much for road trip charging costs to rise to the equivalent of 25mpg. And then 20mpg.

They're already a lot more expensive to insure and put tires on. At this point, that seems to be something people are willing to deal with for the tech and the lack of maintenance costs/efforts otherwise. But again, those current subsidies are no joke, and when they start to run out, people will lose their minds. The term "ticking time bomb" has been thrown around a lot in the 3rd gen forum lately, but I wonder if it applies better to this situation.

Suppose half of the $50k subsidy per vehicle runs out for EVs. How many do you think they would sell per quarter? If a model Y all of a sudden costs $25k more per vehicle, those sales numbers would all but vanish.

I guess my problem is, I've always been a "there is no such thing as a free lunch" guy. I'm still not opposed to a well-used MY or M3 for zipping around town. But is it "the future"? Only if it's forced on us. And once that happens, bye bye subsidies.

I reckon EV subsides (tax credits ahhhhh!) will go the way of the Dodo, being the way Chevron Deference just took a shit.

no more EPA mandates and green energy bullshit without a vote of the people.

We will now have to vote on the crap. and maybe...just maybe...the free market will prevail.

I definitely agree with you on the gov side of things, one can hope we will move away from EV and ICE subsidies. A free market is the best market

I realize I'm in a unique location 100% powered by reliable renewable Hydropower that most of the country doesn't have access too. Our power is stupid cheap (.027/kwh) and not likely to go up much, if at all.
Tires and insurance are roughly the same as my Tundra, I'm good with that

There may (hopefully) be some unwinding of EPA rules with the end of Chevron deference. The tax credits are from legislation though. Chevron was only ever about how agencies interpret rules and how much deference the courts would give those interpretations. An actual law from Congress won't be impacted.

That would require co-operation between all parties, and we all know that won't happen. You're speaking rationally. Not to get too political, but if someone isn't getting what they want without compromise, it's not going to happen. At least that seems to be the trend lately.

Not that I don't love me some good Koennigsig content early in the morning, but it seems like they purpose built that specific Jesko to get that title back from themselves? I could see it as a proof of concept of what does an ICE need to be to beat out Hybrid or EV power?

Edit: I also wrote that 4 minutes into the video, so take that for what it's worth. LOL

    agreed.

I think all Koenigsegigigig's are all purpose built to do stuff.

and, you don't see them in real life. unlike the Plaid series.

and, I never thought one could get a road car to beat the Revera.
