we now have at least 2 CT's in the Friendswood area.

    one - black matte
    one - black gloss

    both look really good.

we saw another one at Rudy's BBQ chargers.
when parked in charging stall, you get a good reference to the size of them. they are not huge.

Not much different than a F-150. I think it is actually shorter than my CM Tundra but I’d have to check dimensions again.

The talk of size and pedestrian safety is the thing that frustrated me the most when the CT came out. Basically every stock truck from Ford or Chevy has the same huge grill that would be bad news for a pedestrian.

    'zactly.

and if you sit back and ask yourself* - what do I want in a pickup?

    CT does it.
    better than the ICE trucks.

I heard most EV owners and people who WANT to own EV's say they are appealing because of low maintenance cost. I.E no oil change. But I find the argument dumb because tires are ridiculous. Tire companies love EV's because the tires only last about 15-20k miles if you are lucky. His Tesla weighs the same as his tundra, but the tires are not as thick, therefore they wear down much faster. A full set of EV tires are about 2400$. You know how many oil changes I can get for 2400$, 80 oil changes from my dealership. I get an oil change about every 8 months, meaning for 1 years of EV tires I can get about 53 years worth of oil changes. Now add the fact that the average body shop repair of an EV is 30% more than non EV because of part availability, a 10k$ battery, and maintence on an EV is INSANELY expensivre. My tundra got rear ended a month into owning in, and it took 3 months to get replacement parts. My rental for those three months was covered but was about 6000$ (covered by insurance). To repair my truck was 12k$, insurance covered, which brought the whole cost to 18k$. Granted, I had a 2022 in 2022, so maybe the inventory of parts has gotten better. But this is why everyone's insurance is going through the roof... Especially EV's.

So EV's are not cheaper than their gas counterparts. And I don't compare gas because charging an EV is basically the cost of gas, just on your electric bill. My Aunts Tesla Model X costs about 25$ of electricity to charge, and my sister in Law's corrola is like 35$ to fill up. The corolla goes 200 miles farther, so gas is still cheaper than electricity.

EV's have another decade before they are viable, and even still I would only own a TRUE hybrid, with both gas and electric in a car.

Agreed. EV's are evolving. Well, Tesla's are. the Big 3 offerings are simply Gov mandates.

and, when the wife drives a 1020hp sedan...double all those costs.

and for the record...I never contended it was cheaper.
We bought this sedan to whoop all ass at red lights.
and the other 99.9% of the time, she toodles around town...you know, kinda like the way we utilize our 4WD system.

and you are probably right on the aspect of tires not lasting....but...we seem to never achieve a mileage comparison, because...well..."we" get a LOT of flats. rumor has it most Tesla's don't get this many flats. yes, we are special.

all that being said....we bought our Tesla for kinda very specific reasons...and boy!...Tesla knocked it out of the park in delivering the goods.

I mean your use case makes sense for getting an EV. They are pretty fun to drive, and nothing even compares to them. But yeah I looked into the costs of maintenance because while in College I booked a slot and got in line for a cybertruck. I ended up selling my spot and thankful I did because of the mass all vehicle mandated recall amongst other things. I think I am happier with my tundra over the Cybertruck.

EV depreciation is no joke lol

Idk what the model is but here’s a Mercedes EV payoff sent to GMTV for a buy appraisal.

GMTV offered $70k and the payoff is over $140k

Yikes. I was actually just speccing out my 2022 tundra into a 2024 and noticed that it is only 2k$ more, but my dealership is marking them up like 10k$. This one at my dealership is sticker priced for 72k$:
    upload_2024-5-6_9-59-49.png

Granted in 2022 I got a student discount and got mine for 60k$.And now it has depreciated t oI believe 38k$, which is not as bad as an EV but still upsetting. I get that cars do not hold value and you should never buy them to, but I was expecting a slower crawl. Doesn't matter if you don't sell it though, which I believe is what EV companies are expecting. You to buy it and then never think of having any problems or issues or selling.

    this.

    why?

and why would one EVER be soft/kind in car negotiations?

I can't tell you how verbally short, yet respectful, to the dealer when I bought my 2020.

no bullshit. & I got my price.

I imagine it's very different these days, you know, with our economy being so strong and all.

buying a Tesla is completely opposite of this.

wait. Dealerships are still marking up tundras? I can get a pro and LE 1794 for 3-5k off MSRP and all other trims like 6-8k off MSRP. Best I got was a platinum 9.8k off MSRP

Yeah. I mean Ford dealerships are the worst for markups. I mean my Toyota Dealer in 2022 had I believe a 1500$ markup, but not a lot of people were buying 3rd gens that year. So maybe now they are catching popularity and they are just trying to profit off the demand.

Ford with their broncos and mustang EV's had insane 20k$ markups. And you literally could not negotiate with them because they would just tell, if you don't buy it today, someone will buy it tomorrow for this price. AND THEY WERE RIGHT! My Aunt wanted a bronco but they were asking 70k$ for a mid model that MSRP'ed at 40k$. She walked and that same day someone bough it for that price.

I think it just depends. My Dealership is marking them up but I have noticed ALOT of 3rd Gen's in Baton Rouge, which is prodominently a Ford City. I am guessing supply and demand means dealers are realizing they can squeeze a couple grand out of people.

I was looking into selling my Tundra for a 96 F150, because it was clean and I can actually work on that myself. But alas the value of my Tundra is sinking every month, so it makes sense for me to just pay it off and drive it til the wheels fall off. Unfortunately this was my first, and probably last time I buy a new vehicle. I will enjoy it while I can.

But yeah, that is another reason I traded my ford. In 2022 the value for a 90k mile ford that had a few transmission issues and other riggidy stuff was 28k$ for trade in. I had it paid off and was thinking "Man I am stealing money from these Toyota people", but they sold it a week later for 37k$. I feel pity for the fool who bought my truck, because my personal opinion of the value of my truck was like 14-16k$. It needed some pretty big maintenance stuff, but it wasn't mechanically bad. Ford just is not the same as it wass, as are most manufacturer's

This is highly debatable. Many (check forums) have tires lasting longer than this. The S seems to have more issues with it based on something to do with the suspension? Last I remember, they found a fix for it.

not sure which tires you are looking at....I run these. $306 each..
    upload_2024-5-6_11-50-42.png

How often are you expecting to replace a battery? The warranty alone (varies by trim)is 8 years or 120k....many have gone 300k+ on it and still going....

If you were rear ended, the other party should cover your rental (pending their policy). I include it on mine just in case.....

Ref charging costs...do it smartly a your fine.

I meant to put my insurance covered the rental. But yeah I see older forums complain about it, but that they just are more careful in starting and stopping to preserve the tires to around 30-40k. I also see alot of post about sportier hybrids like mustang and BMW i3 eating through the tires.

Also weird how you got the worst rated tire: https://www.michelinman.com/auto/tires/michelin-pilot-sport-ev-2
    upload_2024-5-6_13-1-39.png
Where all the reviews say they last barely to the 20k mile warranty but are pretty much shot after.

Also MSRP for tire shop near me and pretty consistent in my area is 400$ a piece:

EDIT: I realized I posted the non AS variant. Which for some reason cost more and is worse than the one you sent. I see the AS are 4 star rated and 100$ less.
