Toyota's market is global, and most of the world won't be going EV.

Yep. He was an early adopter of common sense as far as corporate executives go and he is a biggie in the automotive realm. He knew that switching predominantly to EV production was folly and said even so numerous times. Not easy dealing with a global market that's in constant flux lately with this foolish lofty ideal to try to eliminate fossil fuels when the world isn't ready for such a thing. It will be interesting to see who follows Toyoda's lead on this.

i think the market will follow demand ; in spite of the gov forces at play.

this green energy ploy is very dangerous

ev’s have a place in the catalog of autos.

I enjoy our ev for all the wrong reasons….it whoops hot rods

    True

but practically speaking, the ones that are quicker are generally not certified for road duty and don’t have a/c.

I’m using Tesla plaid channel as my evidence

pondering out loud….what road going autos are quicker than a plaid?

I’ve seen a couple of TT AUDI r8’s do it, but they were heavily modified with over 1500hp. And I don’t suspect they are fun to drive on the hwy. they were probably $350k into those cars.

The way I look at it...practically speaking, there are speed limits. How fast do you have to go on the highway certified or not? I get the cool factor that some people have being able to take a road worthy ride to the track.

    good point

ev’s are very practical for urban/suburban folks

and the dichotomy of Tesla is- it’s a hot rod also

oh, and I don’t usually exceed 60mph. I just get to 60 really quick.

The term Hot Rod has been misappropriated like everything else it seems lately. Hot Rods are traditionally stripped down, modified rides for more speed, power, cruzin and being checked out. Primarily for exibition and simply showing off. I go to a lot of Hot Rod car shows where the owners have built their rides up from scratch with their heart and soul put into it. No Tesla’s,911's, or M3's. Let's not confuse what a Hot Rod really is. Fast cars aren't Hot Rods. Especially factory built fast cars whether EV or ICE. EV's don't have crank shafts. Hot Rods do...and they look and sound bad ass! Tha..rhump!

That guy has pulled seats. He said it in one of the videos. Not sure if he does anything else to make his Tesla track ready.

Now, an S Plaid is still crazy quick, but his is at least slightly modified for track duty.

    2. modify (a vehicle or other device) to make it faster or more powerful.

By the second definition, I could modify it (gut it) to make it faster :boink:

The article leaves out how much China is invested in Ethiopia. China's web is all over Ethiopia. Guess who is going to be selling EV's to replace the ICE cars? Guess who gets to build up the infrastructure to handle this forced change? Guess who's going to exploit the natural resources there to help make this happen? Guess who's going to exploit the Ethiopian worker? Guess who will have a strategic foothold in Africa?

That's the simple version that Hot Rod purists will never accept completely. Like me. See Rodding USA magazine.....those are Hot Rods in there.

They say China just purchased 2400 acres give or take near the air base in San Antonio. I did not like hearing that. I wonder what these people are thinking when they do such things?

Chinese businessman with direct ties to the CCP are buying up a lot of farm land. Some are near military facilities not by chance...

All businesses in China are full of the CCP. You cannot run a business there without government approval. It is top down control.

True, but the elite Chinese billionaires that are buying up our land have DIRECT ties to the powers that be RUNNING the CCP. A bit different and not a coincidence.

    https://jalopnik.com/tesla-recalls-every-u-s-car-because-its-text-is-too-sm-1851219929

The latest recall includes vehicles across Tesla’s various models, including the Model S, Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, Model Y, and 2024 Cybertruck vehicles, the NHTSA said.

“Warning lights with a smaller font size can make critical safety information on the instrument panel difficult to read, increasing the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA said.
