That expensive repair is why I opted out of the Rivian. I saw that video of the guy who was quoted like $45k for body repair to a damaged rear lower quarter panel. Turns out it is tied into the back wall or something and is the main structural support for the roof or something. Nope no thanks.

So, years before launch it's quoted at $25K... we saw how that went with CT pricing. Probably going to be $35K. Still, not a bad price if it's got good range and decent performance.

 

I remember seeing on the Cybertruck forum where people were doing 8 or 10 or 20 reservations because they thought fully autonomous driving was going to be out and they would use them as autonomous taxis. I laughed at the notion because Musk has been promising that for years. Even if it did finally come to fruition, how many people actually use taxi's day in and day out outside of huge cities?

 

...these were also the people who were 100% sure that the Cybertruck was also going to have lasers instead of windshield wipers. Tried to point out it would be hard to laser off mud and salt, but you woulda thunk I had kicked their baby they got so upset.

besides that everyone knows if the laser takes care of the dirt and the rain on the windshield the laser would cut your head off at the neck!!!!

 

This seems a bit misleading. $30k a year is basically minimum wage now in some states ($15/hr). At that wage are they even considering buying any vehicle, EV or ICE?

If I had to look into my crystal ball:

in 5 yrs, I think there will be 1 EV maker.

there is really only one right now, but I digress.

And if the Chevron Deference SCOTUS case gets won by those fishermen....there might not be any EV's....and maybe, just maybe, I'll get my 2026 V-8 Tundra with 10speed trans. and maybe the ATF will get abolished as well.


in short - EV's are weird. damn fun, but weird.

see if Elon did not have Tesla, there wouldn't be any EV's. all the others suck...and NOBODY buys them.

They have the "EVs are for the rich" mentality, and they do have more disposable income. There's also more idiots these days that'll sink themselves financially for a status symbol.

 

1. nobody buys volvo
2. nobody buys pole star
3. rich may have disposable income, but they are being tight with it.


and you are correct in the "EV's are for the rich" mentality...I'm guessing they are the fools buying them.
But then you have the MY & M3 buyers. I believe they are value shopping.

It's smaller in person than I was expecting, I'd say it's between a Tacoma and Tundra
