    So it seems there are at least four Teslas on the forum:

    @nobodyintexas – '21 MSP
    @T-Rex266 – M3P
    @Bob – ??
    @DrZoidberg – MYP

    Does everyone have a Performance or Plaid? I'm just not sure that I could justify the MY Performance over the Long Range. Family of 5 plus a dog and all. That (small) 3rd row would be handy. Two of my kids are still in grade school.

    I'm sure the MYP would be more smiles per electron though...

    @Bob has a MY LR
    I believe @aelarson has a M3P as well

    The 3rd row is small and a tight space. Something to keep in mind. Range won’t be much different, especially if you’re hitting it in the LR
    You can always put it in “chill” mode to use less power

    I have the MY LR 7 seater and the 3rd row fits kids perfectly. Adults would be a tight fit like was mentioned.

    My wife has had a mylr for a couple years. It has been decent. Didn’t see the point in getting the P for her, although her driving style has become waaaay more aggressive with all the extra acceleration on tap.

    Drivers can also have different profiles. So, for example- Tesla would recognize my wife’s key card and or app key. It automatically adjusts the seats, thermostat, mirrors, wheels, steering response, driving style (chill/standard). She has hers in chill mode (1/2 the power) by default.
    The nice thing is, this also applies to Tesla rental vehicles. Profiles sync via cloud.

    Whatever this forum told me to do

    we tried putting it in chill mode.

    nope. it turns into a Camry.

    so we keep it in Plaid mode. it's the most awesome kind of awesome.

    like...more awesome than maple jalapeno bacon.

    just get the Performance model. YOLO.

    Yep. My wife tried the chill mode and immediately went back to standard. She loves the fast acceleration.

    We rode in a Lightning at the Chicago Auto Show as they have a "track" to show acceleration, and it was mind blowing. I've never experienced anything like that to where it got me thinking. But I still have that 1 time a year where we go to rural Missouri camping where there isn't a plug in site that I just can't get beyond. I could bring a generator, but then you'd just be bringing unwanted negative attention to the fact.

    What's the name of the camp site if you don't mind saying?

    EVs, including the Lightning, don't lose more than a percent or two of charge per day if left parked. So if there's an EV charger within a reasonable distance of the camp site, you most likely wouldn't have to worry about plugging in at the site itself.

    @Bob Pulltite Campground in Salem, MO. It's primitive camping. They do have some bath houses and a general store, but the sites themselves are 0 hook ups.

    I have the M3P!

    Get the Long Range, you'll get 95% of the enjoyment at a lesser price. I wish I got the Long Range and saved the cash. I got the performance so I could disable traction control mainly. Not worth it. Cost more for the car and tires hahahaha!

    if I had to do it all over again I’d get the MYP again. It doesn’t drive suspension wise much different than the MYLR I rented for a week. But it’s a lot quicker and handles great

    If you get the LR. You can also (purchase) add the acceleration boost and have it within a minute or less. (What ice brand can do that without thousands of dollars, and time to tune? Exactly)

    We're going to get a LR MY soon.
    The Performance is lower by an inch and rides on 21's, deal breaker for me.

    That would be my worry. With towing a camper and being an hour and a half away from the closest charge point. Plus we are traveling in caravan with my in-laws. If there was a spot between the highway and white dot when we pull off for lunch then it would be much easier of a decision. I usually don't try to quote range anxiety as a reason for not going EV as you have that with ICE vehicles as well, but that would be it.

    I’m not sure if you’ve tried it to confirm, but you can plan a road trip via Tesla that will give you the charging points on their network. There are other chargers, such as Electrify America to use too (but it’s a hit and miss from what I’ve seen). Apps such as Better Route Planner should also give all charging stations

    HAHAHA. I appreciate all the help, but if I can't convince my better half about getting a 3rd gen, it ain't going to happen with a CT that is nearly double what I was looking at.

    Now if I were to switch jobs and need a commuter....
