    Trying not to mod it
It probably has a camera and uses a digital mirror like the 3rd gen tundras.

They didn’t make the rear window roll down either (I rarely used it on my tundra, but was a cool feature) but it’s also one more thing that could break I suppose. Maybe has something to do with something in the bed so it doesn’t slam against a panel and fracture the glass…not sure.

Meanwhile GM you can open the entire rear. Curious how problematic that will be given they had issues leaking for sliding rear truck windows

After nerding out on what it takes to build a cyber truck, especially the way that stainless steel body is formed, I'm wondering how many of these the giga factory can produce weekly. Also wondering about the durability of that ginormous front windshield. Cracking that would suck. Definitely would like to take one for a test drive.

If you hit those in the right spot with a deadblow, while gently trying to open them you can get them to open without a code. I have had the batteries die in mine and got it open that way. YMMV

    Unpopular opinion on EV thread>
The problem is the vast vast majority of car and truck buyers want ICE and, no offense, but no one wants to see only Teslas everywhere except Musk. The CT will sell of course, but price point makes it a niche market. As with many EV's there is no affordable version for most folks even with a tax break. None of these EV's would be selling as well as they are without tax breaks which is a false flag in regard to sales. A true measure is to eliminate the tax break for people above a certain income level. Most people buying EV's can afford them, don't need a tax break and are just virtue signaling that they're helping save the planet which is a joke.

    agreed

hence my statement on those folks that ARE shopping for an ev

Teslas everywhere?- agreed, but here we are. They are years ahead of competitors

price point. They are very similar to ICE prices. Very

tax credits- now you just trying to
    Lather me up!

remove tax credits YES! And Tesla will still sell

saving the planet? No. I agree. It’s the performance aspect that got me

ev’s have a place on the road. Kinda like exotics or any other cutting edge tech.

urban situations are perfect for ev’s.

I overlook this little jewel- my wife leaves the house with a full tank every time. I like knowing she won’t have to stop for gas.

@T-Rex266 maybe I can put the CT tires on the plaid? This would cure 50% of my “issues”.

Problem is there's this huge push to transition to EV's, not just an Elon Musk offering. A good friend and his wife are looking at a Kona. She really wants it because of the tax break. They make decent money. Own two business'. Why a tax break just because it's EV?. Not much equity there it seems. That doesn't make it the same as ICE. Tesla does have a head start until China takes over the market when the current competition dies off. Musk can only lower his price points so low. It's something Musk is aware of and the reason he's getting cozy with China, which is one of the worst polluters on the planet which certainly doesn't fall into the years ahead mold. Performance is relative to need and want of course. Most folks want something affordable and "practical" for their sitiuation. Not everyone has the luxury of plugging in their EV at home which would be nice if you own a home.

yup...and that huge EV push is purely Gov mandates & tax grifts.

big Money is flowing to some seriously skechty organizations. Org's that do nothing.

very good point you make - the free market does not want/need EV's.

without Gov mandates, there presently would only be 1 EV maker, maybe 2.

if your buddies make decent $, they will not get a tax break....as me how I know!

China - sure. but ALL auto maker are under that thumb.

My & M3 are very practical & damn affordable. most folks don't travel >50 miles per day. ideal.

big market barrier - how do those folks that live in apartments charge? change that & you got a whole new segment to sell to.

Not that simple. EV tax credit here in CO is based on the EV value up to $80K. Nothing to do with a persons income. That's my point. There are clearly many barriers keeping people from buying something they might want to try. It's certainly not playing out as hoped for. No surprises there. There's a lot of naysayers out there not even remotely convinced yet. Time will tell.

Right now, a lot of people don't get the tax credit even if you do qualify. You have to owe $7,500 to get the return. I think that's changing in 2024 though.
BYD is Tesla's only real competition in China, I would bet everything I have that BYD will never outsell Tesla in the US.

Each state has different EV tax credit if any. There's no shortage of experts warning about China's capabilities regarding EV production. When BYD offers cheap EV's here, that will be a game changer.

let's say Chyna flooded the market with ~$20k EV's

    would they sell?

    I think not.

I looked at several of the new Ariya's while getting my oil changed. Quite nice. Most where $50Kish. Not selling too well it seems. Pro4-X's flying off their lot tho. Figures.

Doing quite well with Apple and such for meeting quality. Counting out Chinese capabilities would be a mistake and Musk knows this.

Apple is wanted by the free market.
Apple is the most expensive phone out there.

Thanks. Keep in mind that Chyyna controls the vast amount of rare earths required, basically no restrictions on mining, polluting, no political interference. Bribes...easy peasy. Would be easy to infiltrate the EV market here, especially since the powers that be pretty much handed them the key.

Look at the motorcycle market. There's two Chinese brands that I know of. CF Moto, generally regarded as trash, but sells because nobody can match their price. Then there's Kove, still launching I think, and people are jazzed as hell for it.

China makes garbage, but China also makes great stuff. It all depends on what the goal is.
