Drove from Flag to Ridgway, CO and back this weekend...waiting on a CampOvrlnd for Big Booty Judy, and a regular ol ARE presented, so yeah...long drive, but I got to fish. I'm working on my WNTI species, and knocked off #3... the Colorado River Cutthroat. Pic dump ahead.

Now, in checking with the dude that runs the WNTI, only one of these is a true CRCT...but which?

Shout out to Rep Your Water for my home state native fish Apache Trout!!!

In AZ...not every hole holds a fish...in CO, and on this particular water, literally every hole had a fish...and this was the money fly...my buddy's hadn't tied Sparkle Wing PMD(pale morning dun(dull grayish-brown color))

And for you kinky f**ks...enjoy my foot

Beautiful view on the drive back, and a big storm north of town.

New experience for me. Casting for smallmouth on the Mississippi below St. Cloud. Almost crossed the whole thing on foot. Beautiful area 7CEF1121-C03F-48CE-BCC4-D65D4248C764.jpg3C41DA4A-9B78-4837-A83C-85FAE327DCB3.jpg17D1ECC1-8845-43CF-BDF2-D223DA8B1FEF.jpg

It varies a bit seasonally but yes it’s like that most of the summer. An hour downstream in Minneapolis it’s got barges on it and it’s 500 yards across.

Same. I grew up in New Mexico and Colorado and had prime access to some great streams, rivers, and even some private lakes. I did a lot of fishing in general because my dad was actually a sponsored fisherman for many years, but never got into trout or fly fishing.

Now that Im a bit older it is something I regret not doing. Plenty of fishing here in Louisiana but not for trout (other than stocked locations or Speckled Trout in the salt water, lol).

I still feel like there is a lot of stuff I could catch on flies though, here. Might be worth looking into.

You can catch everything on a fly rod in Louisiana especially Redfish, Trout, Tripletail, plus many of the offshore species if you have access.

Awesome. I figured there were a good bit of fish that wouldn’t care what kind of rod I was using. It is definitely and art though, from what I have seen. Casting it properly and learning how to pull the line in and not reel it immediately is going to take some practice. lol

Do you guys have any recommendations on a decent starter setup? What length of rod and what weight? I don’t plan on hitting anything offshore. Just bayous and ponds. There is a bayou about 5min away with tons of bass and perch, and my neighborhood is full of ponds. They have fish in them but mostly are good for finding a snake or the occasional alligator.

Bass and perch fishing is perfect. Find a local bass pro shop and start there, they usually have some people in each dept that can get you started at least until you figure out what is best for you. Good luck,,, and Best of Luck to ya!:)

When hitting up ponds…I like a 5wt…currently using a Orvis clear waters setup and really like it…when getting into the marsh and salt usually move up to a 8wt…but in LA those reds get pretty big…some of the guides I have fished with like a 9wt for those bigger fish. Been to Cocodrie & Venice a few times and absolutely love those areas

Growing up fishing that water 100s of times I can tell you it’s some of the best smallie water in the US. Certain stretches are better than others.
Living in CO for the last 33 years and spending a ton of time on trout, I would choose the smallie on the fly rod every single time.

Got out to Mammoth for a few days and hit up Hot Creek, Upper Owens, and Lower Owens with a little Markleeville on the way home. Lower O was the best this weekend. Didn't catch much at Hot or Upper O except a bunch of little 4" guys.

Stumbled upon this thread on my lunch break. Taking my Tundra on its first steelhead excursion to the Lake Erie tribs this weekend. Will also be my first trip of the season. Hoping I can repeat last years success. 7B5FA334-4AB7-4055-99A8-C4148577F07A.jpgC5474B77-AA96-4A03-8811-9956FC6DA67F.jpg

Met up w a buddy in Redding to hit the Klamath for Steelhead. First time fishing on a big river from a boat; I def enjoyed the experience. If anyone is looking for a good guide, AC Fly Fishing in Redding is stellar. Our guide was Devon, and he def knew his stuff.

I landed a dozen or so small fish, two decent sized ones(by my AZ standards) and then this big ol male, just below the bridge. Thought I had hit bottom until my line took off to the central channel of the river! It was cold on the water, but well worth it!

I know exactly where you're at. It's a sweet spot. Holds above and below the fast stuff (and obvious in it). Good people fish that river, glad you got on some chrome. Pulled a 36+" out a few years back and was my PB steel. Get there early!

Also between bridge and the falls up river is good too (and the guys who don't wade won't reach the waters on the other side and I've pulled a couple from there while getting jealous looks!)
