Planning a trip to Estes Park, Colorado in early August with the wife and two girls. Any recommendations for where to stay? Looking to stay in a cabin/resort and plan on spending time in Rocky Mountain National Park. Of course we'll be taking the Tundra on it's first long road trip...can't wait!

There are so many options out there that specifying would be tough. Are you sold on Estes Park or would Grand Lake work? Grand Lake is like a quieter version of Estes Park just on the other side of the park. VRBO is a great way to search for lodging in Colorado. I use it for friends and family when they come out and i live near Breckenridge.

Also, when you start planning your trip you can certainly reach out to me or any other CO guy on here. You can use the Colorado BS thread if you don't know who they are

Not entirely set on Estes Park...but looking for something close enough to Denver that I could also visit an old friend who lives there. Will definitely check out Grand Lakes. I've only been up to that area a few times and it's always been for work. Will be driving up from Fort Worth, TX.

If you're trying to be close to Denver then Estes Park is your better option. Also, Nederland, Boulder, Lyons, and many other little small towns near the park...are not too far. Lots of options. Go into VRBO and check it out. If you have questions don't hesitate to PM me or ask the Colorado BS thread. We all love to share out knowledge about the state that we are so proud to live in.

Thanks for the info...very much appreciated. We're very much looking forward to getting up into the mountains of Colorado. We visit family in Oregon every summer and stop by Crater Lake, Mt Hood, Mt Rainier, so it will be cool to see some new areas. Anything to get us out of DFW TX in the summer months...

Yep. it's a different world up here compared to the south. I'm originally from Georgia and have a hard time going back in the summer. It only hits 85 degrees a few time a summer where i live and it never gets below 85 in Georgia with a million percent humidity. You'll love it up here and if you need any suggestions along the way feel free to ask for them. By the way...that park is amazing!!!!!

Yeah I hear ya...originally from south Louisiana, went to Ole Miss for undergrad, lived in Houston for 3 years and then moved to DFW about 12 years ago. I'm so sick of the heat and humidity. The wife and I have plans to move to central Oregon in the next 5-10 years, but I wouldn't count Colorado out of the equation.

    i love Oregon too!

I'm headed up there the same time you're going to be here to drop my daughter off at a camp. Both great states...Oregon is a lot wetter but still great temperatures

They haven't been there yet, but we've heard great things. They'll probably go there next summer...just couldn't fit it in this year.

Hands down, check out the YMCA resort in Estes Park.

    The facilities are bad ass.

What @csuviper and @ColoradoTJ said. I've stayed at the Stanley. Cool place. And have heard great thinks from TJ on the YMCA; he's never steered me wrong. Estes Park is a cool town. If you plan to go to RMNP then that is the place to stay. Go overvtrail ridge road and you can drive to grand lake to hang out too. You'll love it either way. Just go to the park early as they are having issues with the volume of people going and running out of parking spots.

The Stanley Hotel is just bad ass. I married some friends in the Gazebo next to the hotel. Word to the wise, don't leave food and windows open in your room. Then ride and groom had their room trashed by some raccoons, and they were on the top floor.

Pretty spendy for a room though....FYI.
