For the last 10 years, I have had free credit monitoring from other breaches. The scariest was when I received a certified letter from the Gov that my security credential was hacked. I had a security clearance for six months back in 1996.

My son not impacted but I am. Oh well, some more free monitoring.

    same here

has anyone else wondered if the credit protection companies may be behind these breaches? I have been involved in several and in each case the impacted entity provided free credit protection I assume they have to pay for which means some protection company is making a shitload of money???? hmmmmm, where is my tinfoil hat???

man happens every time. those big companies are always too cheap to pay for decent security measures so they dont get hacked...then who pays the price..us..the customers..and we are stuck with their mistake for a long time.

Any online data is prone to hackers. Why should they bother with places like target etc, when there's clowns like Equifax around that have more personal info then lots pf places

we are not the customers. we are the product for the credit reporting companies. they collect all our information without our consent and then sell it to advertising agencies.

but yes, we do pay the price and it is F'd up.

You are so right. A freeze will cost me $10 for EACH agency.

hmmm... I was just thinking... this whole thing could be a scam to get half the US population to pay for credit monitoring and credit freezing. those credit reporting agencies will be rolling in the dough :)

I got hacked.. $80 in fees today. I will expect some repercussions and I hope this is not a farce by the major three. Monitoring my credit close from now on.

the cost is based on the state that you live in. in Texas, it is $10 per agency.

Likewise VA, unless you're a documented victim of ID theft.
