Can you post a pic of what the Alpine looks like in your 4Runner? These entune units are crap and I want to replace both our pro's radios but I'm afraid of making them look like crap. Especially the 4runner. I'd like to see how it looks. I'd like to replace the trucks radio first but I'll catch shit from my wife...

    Thanks!

PSA and bit off topic, but for music heads that are butt hurt about Crapdora. If you really want a good music app, the new Youtube Music service absolutely kicks ass. Every since Last.fm sold out, I've been struggling with a decent app that allows me to find new NON CORPORATE CRAP music without repeating songs 15 million times. so far, Youtube music is it, I think google bought Last.fm and finally are using the technology in this new app.

not sure but how does "entune 3 remote connect" connect to the system to do remote start/stop, door lock/unlock, vehicle status, vehicle finder and setting the temp control via the app if its not tied into those systems?

but if its on the canbus then that functionality has access to those systems and you are sending change requests that are carried out by the entune system.

it would be different if it was just reading data off the canbus, but entune is changing a state remotely.

Well this one I can at least answer...basically it all boils down to CAN bus and/or other buses depending on the vehicle. Basically put quite some time ago vehicles would have wires connecting each button to each respective device ... for example a window switch might send a power or ground depending which direction is requested. Now you have what's called CAN bus and the like. Think of it like a computer network, you plug your laptop in at work and suddenly you can print to the printer, browse the web, or even send your coworker cat pictures. Same idea here, except it's proprietary (to an extent). The closest resemblance is a ring topology, meaning the can bus forms a ring around the vehicle and the devices are daisy chained one to the next. When this ring is broken, devices after the break are suddenly inaccessible. Anyways, back on topic. With this setup it basically means that lets say your infotainment system can request information from other modules such as TPMS or go even further like resetting condition based services (like oil change etc) in the body control module.

Let's say you're a third party manufacturer and you want to develop a device that enables you to have auto-down windows. First you would tap into the CAN bus, the OBD port is usually a good place, and you would listen for commands sent on this network. Specifically you want to listen for this when you toggle the switch down/up, what command is sent and which module is the intended recipient. Once you have this information, you can have your module send this command say for 5 seconds and walla! you have a rudamentary auto-down device.

For functionality that is built into the vehicle this is even simpler. The module knows what command to send and to what device. So your entune within your radio would send the command to start/stop the engine just like my aftermarket Fortin remote start would. This is a simplified break down of functionality but I hope you get the idea. Basically put they are connected but independent.

That is a freaking LIE!!!!! How many matchbooks were hanging out of the front of a tape deck back in the 80's a Trillion, sure it wasn't for skipping, but the struggle to maintain tunes was REAL!! Not to mention the occasional spaghetti mess when you go to eject a tape and the deck decides it wasn't going to let go....ARGHHHHHH!!!

Looks like I'll have to start doing that too instead of through the pandora app like I do now. I just liked not having to touch my phone and having pandora come on automatically.

Kinda bummed about Pandora as well. It was easy to use.... never having to touch the phone and all that. We have found Entune in general to be just terrible in terms of quality in both the Tundra and the 4Runner - constant reboots, insufficient connectivity, etc. For the last week or so I’ve quit using the Entune native Pandora app and just streamed from my phone. No issues at all. Makes me think the Pandora app on Entune is bad and the cause of our problems. I was hoping that the next update would fix it - I guess addition by subtraction is a fix???? Been thinking about replacing the HU on both because of poor quality and a desire to have more current maps with reasonably affordable updates. Seems like a one time investment in aftermarket might be the solution.

just emailed Toyota through their website and told them how sorry this is. as I said in the email its one thing to not be a leader in tech features but quite another to active work towards being the worst.

I have to agree. Once my XM 3 month sub runs out, Youtube Music is what I'll be streaming. They really did it up nice.

@Watt maker would you happen to know those three models? I'm looking for an HU that fully integrates with the Tundra as well as some of the Kenwoods do. My apologies for my ignorance on the Pioneer line.

I run Spotify via Bluetooth. All I do is walk into my truck and it plays my Spotify playlist as soon as my iPhone and Tundra join hands via bluetooth. Huge music selection and you can create multiple playlists with your favorite songs.

This is why you create your own playlist. All streamers repeat the same songs, but I created my own playlist (via Spotify) which has all the songs I like, over 100 songs currently in one list, and I have created several lists over different genres.

This happened today. When I started my truck it updated and pandora is no longer installed on the headunit. I now have to run it on my phone and use the bluetooth input to play music. It sucks because if you wanna change songs or stations you have to do it via your phone, there is no was to control it thru the headunit. Hate this damn entune JBL crap.

well my truck updated. fuckers stole my Pandora.

You suck Toyota. if you can't figure out how to make a comfortable seat at least give me some good entertainment to take my mind off the back and ass pain I get riding on a church pew for hours!

that new Ram (yes I know, POS) is gonna take business from Toyota. They better take whatever they had as the '22 Tundra and go right back to the drawing board.

So, Pandora is still displayed on my HU, update never reached me. How do I prevent an update and eventual Pandora wipe out?
I have never tried Pandora but would like to.
