My truck always shuts off just when I put it into park. Then, once it is shut down in park, it turns back on just in time for me to have to shut it off a second time. This is so annoying. I am not pressing hard on the brake when I shift it into park and the location of the button that stops this is in an inconvenient location. Toyota needs to put the auto start\stop button on the steering wheel.

*Update-Reported this at my 5K maint visit and the Serv Writer said he never heard of it (could be, was a young green guy). I still believe it’s a software issue I hope will be fixed. I refuse to disable S/S every time I start the truck so my work around is when I come to a stop and am ready to Park, I shift to Neutral for just a couple seconds and then to Park. The truck never shuts off, stumbles, or dies and restarts. After doing this a dozen times it just becomes natural muscle memory and you don’t even think about it.

I have same issue - when shifting to park, the auto start stop feature on the truck will shut off briefly and then start again.

Most of the times I can make it not do that if I keep my foot on the break pedal when shifting to neutral, then hitting the parking brake button, then shifting to park slowly and slowly releasing brake pedal. This is my usual custom before shutting off truck.

This is 100% related to stop/start.

For whatever reason, the logic for stop/start disables it when the seatbelt is not clipped in so what is happening is the truck sees you put it in park, shuts down the engine for stop/start, and then restarts the engine (or you get the stumble if you do it quickly) when you unbuckle to leave the truck.

The only way to keep this from happening is to disable stop/start during your trip, unbuckle your seatbelt before shifting to park, or park-shut truck off with the button-then unbuckle.

This doesn't truly disable S/S. It just shuts it off once the engine starts. You can still press the button and turn it back on. It's really just defaulting S/S to off, but otherwise works the same.

After cleaning the mass air flow sensors? My Tundy was doing it also, great service by my dealership. I was fixing to go on vacation, on my to my destination my Tundy started acting up. I gave my guys ring at the dealership l, explained my conundrum and he said bring it in immediately.
I got there and the master tech was waiting for me. I took it to the back, spent like an hour with it. Fixed the issue.
He stated he cleaned the mass air sensors. My truck was running bad. ( disclaimer) I was servicing my truck prior to my departure. New oil, cleaned the TRD air filters. I was waiting for air filters to dry, so I used the old filters, which were severely dirty, I left em laying around when they we’re remodeling my house and the filters must got fine dust from sheet rock on them.
Anyways kiddos my guys at the dealership, outstanding service, saved my vacation!

The device just remembers the last setting. If you set the A s/s to off, the last time you drove then it will be off when you start your vehicle next time. The "Car care nut" on YT has a great explanation of the smart A s/s. The feature is designed to reduce emissions. Not increase fuel economy. And the starter has a factory programmed number of starts its allowed to do. Then it disables itself and you need to buy a new one. It could take ten years before you reach the set number. Your mileage may vary:)

I turn off the stop/start feature every time I get in my truck and there are still times that at a stop light the revs go down and feels like it's about to stall and picks back up to normal idle. I was also pulling up to a light a couple months ago and as I was coming to a complete stop my truck bucked so hard i really thought i had gotten rear ended, until i didnt see a car behind me...
