Think about how many vehicle manufacturers there are.
Think about how many models there are.
Think about how many model years/generations there are for each model.
Let's be conservative and say there's 2-3 separate chat boards/forums for each model, of every vehicle there is. This includes cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, classic vehicles, small engine stuff, etc.
And then all the sub categories and sub-sub categories.
And let's be conservative and say they have all been around for 20 yrs.
Let's also be conservative and say that for each and every category and sub category and sub sub category, one new oil thread is started, once per week.
I wonder how many oil threads that adds up to.
And it's always the same questions. It's always the same answers. And to be honest, the most informative answers and info are never from the chat boards. It's always another site that's not a chat board or sales rep and has write-ups from professionals that actually know what they're talking about.
Unless this is your very first time on the internet, your very first question, your very first vehicle and oil change,.....I don't understand how you could possibly need to ask a question about motor oil on a truck forum. How is it possible to not assume, "hmmm, this has probably been asked many times in the last few years(decades),....let me do a quick search and see what people are saying".
You can't possibly ask these questions and not expect smartass answers. If you're 16 and it's your first time, say so in the opening post and people will go a little easier and help you out.

Oil threads are known to cause a lot of feeling damage around here. I'll just leave it at that.

I've owned 4 Toyota trucks. I've never really invested too much time or energy into shopping for anything special as far as oil. If it has the API seal and is the correct weight and specification (SJ, SK, or whatever we are at now), you should have many years and miles of reliable service as long as you change it at reasonable intervals.

I've used everything from Super Tech to Mobile without issue.

I never said Toyota or Suzuki makes their own oil.....I did say I've been told Suzuki puts their own additives in their ECStar oil.....I wouldn't doubt if Toyota adds additives to whoever's oil their using of the big 2 or 3 as well.

As far as there not being such a thing as Toyota Oil. Yea, maybe not in Canada, but in The Great United States of America yea there is such a thing as Toyota Oil that you can buy from Toyota if you so choose.......what an f'n joke this post has turned out to be......guess it's time to delete it.

Doesn't matter how you ask the question.
There's no such thing as Toyota oil.
Sometimes they use Penzoil, sometimes Mobil. Etc.

There was a Tundra that got 1 million miles.. I believe* the owner of that took it to Toyota for his services. 1 million miles on the original engine too.

I’m 99% sure Toyota pays Mobil1 to produce an oil with their unique additives as “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” so I don’t think that’s right. Only one manufacturer makes the “Toyota” oil.

AZboathauler, you beat me to it, thanks....

Richtersphincter, maybe you don't get it. There is certainly a difference between Toyota Oil and Mobil 1 oil. Toyota oil has additives that Toyota puts in it and Mobil 1 is just Mobil 1.

They used to buy drums of Penzoil to keep at the dealerships. At least around here.
From what everyone is saying, they now buy in bulk from Mobil/Exxon.
I'm a little skeptical that they pay for a proprietary blend of additives. That would cost money and then they would recommend only using their specific blend for their engines. But they don't, as far as I know. They just give a guideline for grades to use with their engines.
If I had to put money on it, I'd say they switched to Mobil because they get a better price and not because Mobil makes their special blend.
Add the fact that they're doing complimentary oil changes for new vehicles, there's no way they're investing extra money in oil

Nah, it’s all in good fun. It’s also a right of initiation.

it’s my understanding that Toyota uses their own additive package. I don’t remember what it is at the moment but they had something in there that was an order of magnitude higher than other oils.

does that make a difference? The jury is out on that as there’s no real data that I have seen.

Car Care Nut guy says in a YouTube video (and he worked at a dealership for aLOT of years). That the oil they use (at least at the dealership he worked at) doesn't even use the same oil you get when you buy Toyota oil. He said they use whatever the cheapest oil they can get that is within spec is. Which makes sense.

    Gotcha.
I'm still a little skeptical that they shell out extra $ to have a proprietary motor oil made, even to sell in separate bottles with a label.
Not saying I know, it just doesn't seem like Toyota's style, or worth the investment.

They clearly aren’t doing it for charity - that shit is expensive which is why I’m guessing they don’t sell much of it.

@Usagrown. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, 5w-30. Great product for the price of what you're getting, check out some of the reviews on YT. My neighbor (airplane mechanic) turned me on to it, he uses it on all his vehicles. Used to use Amsoil but there became no benefit over cost there.

Edit: oil isn't really something that needs to be OE specific. Including F&R differentials, transfer case, etc. The only thing I consistently see that is kept OE is the transmission fluid, I will do the same when time comes.
