Issue is AAA pays peanuts for a tow. So will wait forever if bad weather, drink and drive night, etc.

ya, its sounds like you have a window cracked a little, way outside just highway noise thats normal. the truck I took for a test drive had it, I told the dealer at teh time about it, but I chalked it up to early production, but now that there are trucks still having this 2 years into production, something is off.

When TFL tested the tundra without the window air leak it had a max of like 64-68 dB at highway speeds which was like the lowest noise level out of any truck they have ever tested, so its certainly not just regular noise, toyota has this thing super quiet when its built and functioning right.

Im really hoping mine doesn't have it or the gas gauge malfunction. the gas gauge thing seems to have gone away so maybe they fixed that.

also, the air suspension hitting the bump stops still seems to be happening on some of the newer trucks which is odd since there is a TSB about it you would thing the production line would have that fixed every time

Another reason forum like this misrepresents the actual data: most people come to a forum for answers.
    —Those looking for buying info,
    —those for parts/upgrade info,
—and those with problems looking for solutions.

Most people just buy and use their trucks and don’t hang around on forums.

I’m just here for the memes:rofl:

Blaming the owner for a test vehicle issue not good. This TTV6 is a luxury sedan engine with some extra cooling. No way this truck won’t have growing pains. Give to 2024-25 for the bugs to be worked out.

Engines don’t know what they are. It’s just a lump of metal. They get configured different ways for different applications. Look at the Chevy 350. Started in Camaros and Novas.

So still not understanding. Can you explain please. My 2018 Tundra turns the lights off if I leave a door - ajar. Forget what the minute count is to turn them off. Does the new Tundra not have the tech to do this also? And are you telling us if your situation happens out in a remote spot that you would be in a fix ?

Look, I recognize the huge electronics drain on new vehicles. My wife left her Outback interior light on the "on" position by mistake for a while and the battery drained. Could not be resuscitated. And those new Auto Stop/start batteries are not cheap.

I am not a Toyota engineer like you , but I don't see with something as important as the engine (all the parts) , why a mechanical backup light wasn't incorporated to let owner know of low oil. Something that doesn't rely on battery power but mechanically through an engine component that turns.

Just a lump of metal ? I had one of those 350's in Camaro Z28 and this Toyota engine is nothing like it. Just saying.
added - putting bigger blocks in smaller cars is one thing. putting smaller displacement blocks in a vehicle that had a bigger block previous is another. gets more complex more parts needed. JMO

What? A Chevy 350 and a 3.4 liter Yota motor aren’t alike? Of course not. But the motor is just a motor. Doesn’t car what car or truck it’s in. Setups will be different, tunes different. Am I a fan of smaller displacement booster engines? Well, sometimes yeah. Do I want one in my truck? Not if I can have the V8 instead. That said, we’ve got almost 10 years of data showing it works.

Well we have 10 years of data showing that Ford figured out how to make it work in a truck. No surprise that the Ford TTV6 having a decade of developmental head start makes more power, and gets better fuel efficiency too.

Toyota’s TTV6 truck engine has 1 year of data in customer hands. Not surprisingly there appear to be some bugs that need to be worked out, and Toyota has copied not only Ford’s engine concept but also the concept of customers as beta testers.

If "it works" means one is comfortable with buying a vehicle that gets serviced under warranty and gets sold before warranty expires - ok sure.
I personally know of 1/2 dozen people that have bought new - within the last 2 years - full size trucks.
None of them would even consider keeping them past warranty.
4 of the 6 is the brand that has been offered for 10 years as mentioned above.
These people don't care what happens to them outside of warranty because they won't own them.
Now what works to me means long term ownership past warranty.
I believe those days are gone with all the current new full size trucks offered.
And not just because of the quality and durability of these trucks, but because the trucks you see today are just a stop gap, until battery tech gets developed that satisfies for cold temps, towing, carrying loads that trucks need with longer ranges.

Haven't heard a single great thing about the new tundras. My brother in law works for Toyota and actually advertises against them. They have too many issues to date.

Toyota didn’t copy the design, they traded their hybrid tech with Ford for their sma displacement, twin turbo v6 tech. It would appear that Toyota mistakenly made the same assumption above - that 10 years of data and experience from Ford’s TTV6 development would give help make make up for lost ground, then implement it in Toyota way.

Apparently Toyota got suckered. And I get the feeling we are, too.

I also know at least as many folks with other-brand TTV6 trucks that have had to have engines removed for service before the 100k mark, and often just after the warranty expired. Several have had overheating events towing less than max weight at altitude and just shrug like it’s a normal thing. Almost all of them bought newer “updated” versions of the same vehicle, but plan on punting them around warranty expiration.

When Ford came out with the EcoToot, I was very much in like with the concept. Good power, great low end torque (once the turbos spool), good fuel economy, etc. I was saving for one when I ended up with my Tundra. Why didn’t I get an EcoScoot? As nice as the concept appeared, I was unhappy with Ford’s implementation. Too many folks I knew that had issues with them. Expensive issues where Ford gave them the runaround until warranty expires and they “discovered” a problem with the truck.

I was hoping Toyota would be able to do a better job with the concepts’ implementation. I’m confident they are doing a better job than the four letter competitor, but it appears to still have issues.

To the OP, I hope they find a resolution and cause to the issue. My siblings and I used to joke that our family vacations revolved around being broken down on the side of the road, anywhere from Death Valley to the Grand Canyon to Yellowstone to Pennsylvania Amish Country. But we were never in new vehicles from a maker renowned for its QDR. That’s a crummy situation.

the problem is the trucks usually don’t have it to start and develop it with time. My truck didn’t have it for about 6k miles then it started up. Luckily mines not bad, but still mildly annoying

What’s the other option? My dealer said can’t find an issue and no bulletin so they can’t do anything about it. Can I report direct to Toyota (in Canada). Thank you for posting here

Unfortunately, Toyota seems to have copied a lot from other manufacturers lately. I test drove a 2023 Pro Tundra yesterday. While there was nothing that stood out in a negative way, I was not impressed in any meaningful way. It actually seemed a tick slower than my ‘21 off the line. It was a very nice truck and it was comfortable and quiet. I’m sure someone will buy it and I hope they have a good experience with it. List price was $75k. The salesman said they wanted $85k plus ttl. I said “No thank you” and left. I’m not here to bash the truck. If I could have bought it for around $72k it would be sitting in my driveway right now. It’s simply not worth $85k to me.

I wouldn't pay 65K for the truck. For 75K or 85K, I can go buy a 3/4 or 1-ton truck with more capabilities and capacities. I only paid 36K for my 2020 Sport new. the prices on these new 3rd gen Tundras are just out of control.
