Hello, while installing a set of off road lights the other day I mistakenly shorted my power straight to ground. Only briefly but enough to create ELECTRICAL ARMAGEDDON...
Since this happened I have lost power windows, tail lights, brake lights. radio, turn signals and it is stuck in park..... Starts, and drives just fine. Once I bypass the shift interlock. No DRL, but headlight when operated manually work. Alternator working but no charge voltage reaching battery????
So far I have replaced the battery, the alt fuse block, tested all of the fuses, relays I can find, fusible links I can find. Everything checks out????

    Some stuff
this. if you don't have windows, locks, radio or lights, those are in the fuse panel under the driver side kick panel.

I checked every fuse in both fuse boxes. The only fuses that don't have power are the ones that aren't working...
Thank you for replying... Still scratching my head!

Could have burnt some wires up in a harness somewhere.

Might have to start checking individual wires to see if they pass electricity from one end to the other.

That is a possibility I suppose. I only had the wire grounded for less than 10 seconds. Why there was no fuse blown is beyond me! For all of these systems to got down in a matter of seconds is astounding!! Having trouble identifying fusible links. Anyone familiar with todays fusible links or their locations?

Yes, I suppose I could have. Will continue searching for hidden relays and fusible links!

if those fuses all sit in a row check to see if the bus bar melted. unlikely but you never know.

I would bet that you let the smoke out of the bcm (not sure if Toyota calls it that). but I believe it lives by the drivers left foot.

it may have also taken out the alternators voltage regulator thus killing the excitation voltage. with truck running disconnect the battery and put a meter across the cables. you should see power from alternator.

as you continue to troubleshoot use of a 12v incandescent test light will help. just be sure to clip to ground not power again. :D dont use an led as you may get a false positive

Thank you all for your help. I believe I have damaged the "Main Body ECU. "That is what Toyota calls the Body control module. It is the small fuse panel under the dash on the drivers side. It rest in a box to which all of the wires plug. Upon opening this box I found two printed circuit boards. I am guessing one of them is fried. In answer to your questions, I landed the power from this fuse box on an empty fuse slot. I did not use a inline fuse. BIG MISTAKE!! Cost me about $600. I'll try and find a used one at the local auto salvage. I'll keep you posted as to weather or not this was the problem. Thank you all again.

good luck. letting the smoke out of a box is a horrible feeling.

salvages and Ebay and craigslist may yield a part.
Google LKQ they salvage a lot of stuff

$600 is a lot to spend if you're not 100% sure it's the problem. Even if you find one at a salvage yard it still might cost a fair amount. Would it make sense to have the dealership diagnose in this situation? Not sure if they offer a flat rate diagnosis or not, but might save you in the end. If they confirm it's the BCM, then I suppose you could always search for a used one with a little more confidence it should resolve the problem.
