e-brake on half way when pulling boat up ramp god or bad?

I have a 2011 dc with the lil v8 and I tow a 5k boat. I was told to set my e-brake half way when pulling the boat out of the water. I remember this trick with old limited slip rear ends but does it work with the tundra's modern traction control ?

 

Don’t know the answer but I’m curious to see what people say.

 

Thats basically how our auto lsd works. Braking force on the rotors “tricks” the diff to think tire still has traction.

I can’t imagine it working as well as our abs activated system will

 

I assume you have a 2wd. (Otherwise use 4wd).

I have never used that trick, but I agree with Jeff above. On my 1st Gen 2wd I had all my boat passengers sit in the bed for traction. Otherwise my tires would spin. Much better with my 3rd Gen 4x4. No more offending my wife's friends by saying I need their weight for traction.

 

When you lose traction your power is released through one wheel and the other stops turning ( unless you have locked diffs). To prevent that, an old school trick would be to set the e brake so if you lost traction, the one spinning tire is restricted somewhat and that energy is transferred to the non spinning wheel. It can work, but it’s harsh on your whole system. Toyota has some technology on the newer gens that Mimic this using the brakes auto lsd I think?? Your doing the same thing just manually. You may have this technology now but you’ll have to research you year truck as I can’t say for sure. The best would be a locking diff so both tires spin at the same rate no matter what. Second best is a true LSD.

 

Yes I do have the auto lsd and traction control automatically kicks in and stays on if it keeps slipping. It does seem to help with the e-brake on just a bit though. when they open the state again I will try it with the lsd turned on and no ebrake. and see how that works. most of the time it's not a issue but some of the ramps here in Central Texas are steep and my boat is 5k+ without the trailer. thanks guys stay safe and well!!!
