I am not saying do anything illegal at all....

Let's say 2,000 pounds magically found its way in the bed of a new 1/2 ton. I much rather have it in a Tundra with 1,100 of payload compared to a Ford Ecoboost with 1,600 payload and aluminum bed......

Nothing wrong with the aluminum bed. The super duty trucks are aluminum as well and stand up to the beating oilfield guys put them through

Did you or the dealership ever figure out what's going on with the transmission? Mine started doing the exact same thing but at 23k miles.

My 2018 4Runner also awesome, put about 500# on a hitch carrier two years ago and blazed around the rockies for a few weeks and often at high speeds in AZ, NM, TX, NV, CO. The interior was fully loaded also. The truck never felt uncomfortable and pulled the hills with ease. For those who haven't been there, you must experience the Grand Canyon! Photos and movies do not even come close!

Admittedly, I sold the truck 2k miles later at 51k. My gut instinct tells me probably nothing major, and will bang and clank on its watt to 300k miles, but it is a little concerning. I talked to dealer and same BS everyone hears. One had no clue what I was talking about. The second one said that is 100% normal.

My service advisor told me that everything is fine since they can't replicate it at the dealership. Not sure where to go from here.

Yeah I know how you feel. Many threads on here with the same thing. When mine would down shift at real low speeds, basically going from 2nd to 1st, so I was going about 8 MPG or so. Slowing down to enter my driveway. It down shifted so hard it locked the rear tires for a second. I had the windows down and could here the tires lock up a second.

That was the most viscous one I felt. Other times it would be when you are coasting on the highway, then get back into the gas. It would catch pretty hard at times.

I put the truck up on our lift at work and we look at all driveshafts and u-joints. All axles also and they were all right as can be. Zero play in them. No doubt it was coming from transmission or transfer case. Mine did it from day one pretty much. Probably would have been fine for many years, but it made me a little uneasy to say the least....

I have to be honest, there is little to none instances on here where it fails. I think the Aisin transmission will probably bang and clank its way to 300k miles. It is a little disheartening to feel it. I have never owned another vehicle that has done that....

Can someone enlighten me on payload and tow rating. Does IIHS rate and determine the ratings, like crash test and EPA with MPG?

I agree! Love this truck and wasn’t expecting this at all. After all, reliability was one of my primary reasons for buying it.
