Driver grab handle

That stinks! I received an email from Sparks on Friday regarding the grab handle. They said 7-9 mos backorder.

 

7 to 9 months from Saturday? Ughh

 

I ordered one a couple of weeks ago, they sent me an email saying there was a National back order right now. They asked if I wanted to cancel my order and get a refund. I did that hoping I can find it somewhere else.

 

try ebay, that's were i found mine after months of watching. i just checked, there's a tan set available off a sequoia right meow

ok here is the story!! I needed one for my truck. There is a hole in the original because that is where the boost gauge went. But the truck is back to original now.
I thought I had an extra one but I can not find it, I believe I gave it to someone that needed it. I then had to find one and I figured I would have to order it and wait for months until they were back in stock which is 7 to 9 months.
I started to call around small town dealers here in Texas to see if they had an A-Pillar in Grey. All the answers were no and they let me know there are 512 on order nation wide. One place told me he would check all of Texas for me and he found one. I called and they sure did. I asked him if I could purchase it so he went to check to see where it was. He came back and said he found it but it is on hold for a customer. Now I know that these are like hens teeth so I knew they had it for awhile, he told me they ordered it and it came in. So they have had it for a time! A week or two passed and I called them back this time a different fella was on the phone. I was polite and cordial and asked if they had the part. He was gone for the longest time,, he came back and said I was in luck and he would ship it to me, he let me know the person they purchased it for was not coming in. I got lucky and must of thanked him numerous times and sure enough two days later it is here.

 

I just got off the phone with Sparks. They advised they are getting more grab handles in each month but they have a few more months before they get to my order. They said they still have about 100 more orders in front of my order. They are just getting to fill last July’s orders. Ridiculous. Not on Spark but Toyota. Wander if a Toyota dealer with less clientele can get smaller back orders filled quicker. Guess I’ll still wait. I like their customer service.

From a couple weeks ago:
Finally got tired of Sparks Parts telling me every 6-8 weeks since August that the grab handle kit would be another 6-8 weeks. Cancelled the order and bought one from a salvage business in Rancho Cordova that I found through Craigslist. http://www.toyautomartca.com/inventory/retail.htm

Worked with Serge and he said he has a bunch of 07-13 Tundras with the handle and pillar trim, both gray and tan. $50 shipped to Colorado. It was in good shape although a bit dirty. It was missing one of the two oval flange washers but there is one in the pillar trim on the 14-21 trucks. I had him include both bolts and washers, one of which works. The other is too short but again the one from the pillar trim on my truck worked so the only thing I had to buy was the 1/4-20 extruded U-nut. Super easy to cut the replacement pillar trim with a sharp utility knife and the installation was a breeze with the instructions from Sparks.

No knock on Sparks, as they can't control when Toyota fills their orders, but it was nice saving $130, and not having to wait any longer.

Did you call them? Because their website does not list the A pillar trim as an option to choose.

Here’s the part numbers…
I just started to call all my local dealers and then expanded out and finally got lucky. I found one at Aubrey Alexander Toyota in Pennsylvania. They just happened to have one in stock from someone who had canceled their order.

I don’t remember which dealer it was, but one of the parts guys I talked to that didn’t have it in stock was actually able to look at their sister dealers parts inventory. That’s how I found the one in Pennsylvania.

 

You’re welcome,lol. I had ordered the grab handle from Aubrey in PA in July of 2022, and after waiting 3 months with the customary “sorry but shows next week for the delivery” I found one on Facebook Marketplace and cancelled my order. Can’t believe they didn’t cancel it, worked great for U.

 

Oh damn man! Well I’m glad you were able to get one too! Crazy that these things are back ordered like they are. Would seem to be a pretty common part.

 

Sparks just shipped my grab handle after 6 months of backorder.

 

Anybody been able to find this recently?

 

They have long been out of stock everywhere but some seem to have found them recently through local dealers and also Sparks has recently shipped some too. If you are running into issues, then searching local/national salvage yards has been successful for myself and others. I was on Sparks backorder list for several months before I went another route. Good luck.

 

Got pillar and handle for $100 on eBay shipped. Will be here next week. Pumped.

Have you tried the dealer? Last week, I was able to get the pillar and handle from my dealer within a couple days.

 

Same here. My stealer had one overnight. Just a couple weeks ago. Was not cheap.

 

I got emails from ebay today for two gray ones. i guess thye never stop, since I bought one months ago.

That's the same guy I got mine from. Where he gets them, who knows. He's sold over 80.

 

1/3 what I paid the stealership.

 

We have an LKQ in town. I have an email alert set for the various cars my family has. Luck would have it I got an email today that an 08 Tundra arrived. Went over there on my lunch break and scored a beige handle/trim for $7.50!

FWIW I would recommend to anyone, keep up with the salvage yards in your area; some have an online shop that could ship to you. Because if you are like me, a grab handle would be nice to have at the right price, but isn't something I need bad enough to spend nearly $200 on. Good luck!

 

I believe I read here on this forum several years ago that Toyota yanked the driver's side grab handle due to some lawsuit. My 2018 did not have one when I bought it new but was able to order it, receive it and install it pretty quickly after ordering.

At my age (74) the handle is almost essential to assist me in getting into the driver's seat (along with tube steps). Funny, my wife's 2017 Sequoia has the driver's side grab handle from the factory. Go figure.

I was finally able to score a handle from a junkyard in Orlando.....
