Just north of Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I admit you wouldn't get that price now, but still, even if it's 2x that, you're still in the neighborhood of $150K or so.

Most people I know have truck payments that are higher than my MORTGAGE payment - and I'm on a 15 year loan.

Those three were in the early '90's, although I didn't take into account the exchange rate back then so our 50k GBP houses would have cost you lot anything up to $100k. Not quite like the heady decades previously but 10% interest rates weren't pleasant.

And to add, I didn't mean to derail the thread and do appreciate that if you look after the pennies then the pounds/dollars will take care of themselves.

For me I don't think the service fee is worth it just for Navi. Especially when your phone can do the same job and better and is included (at least for now). However, whatever service has the GPS locator I will definitely subscribe. I let it lapse on my 2020 after the trial period and then my truck got stolen. No way to track it. If I had that service active they could have recovered my truck. As it stands now I am still waiting for my new one (9 months and counting from order). So some small monthly fee is worth it to me.

I paid 40k in 1995. Sold it for 120k twenty years later.

Good thing you don't have a 2023. On those Drive Connect is ransomware. If you don't pay the $16 a month an advertisement pops up EVERY TIME you start your vehicle and locks up the infotainment system for anywhere from 1 minute to 10 minutes. It is worse when there is no internet. Besides, Amazon Auto and Apple Air can do just about anything Drive Connect can do. But of course the Drive Connect ad blocks access to them. Neither my dealer or Toyota USA can do anything to fix it. This is my last Toyota because of this.

If only it was that easy, the other manufacturers are doing the same shit, plus you don’t even get all the stuff you paid for like heated seats, etc

so if it’s your last Toyota over that then you’ll have a tough choice if you need a truck

Not saying I think what they are doing with the add is ok, it’s bullshit , it’s like we are renting from them, it’s our fuckin truck, don’t want to see your ads Toyota , let it come up once then have a do not display again option

Actually, it is more than just an irritant. It is a safety issue. Drive Connect locks up the info display anytime you are out of an internet area. Can't unlock it until you are in a att internet area. Your mapping, music and hands free disappear. Putting a pin number in a dozen times a trip means no eyes on the road while fiddling ith the display. Can't even replace it with an aftermarket unit. Toyota bought my 23 back because it was unusable for me since I am rarely in an internet area.

Between streaming services, online newspaper, car connection, Amazon Prime, etc you can $9.99 yourself into $200 a month.

Mine expired today. Found it odd the clock on the gauge cluster now reads 6 hours ahead of time. Like pay me or I start busting stuff.

I haven't had anything like that, but I use CarPlay for everything.

sucks it didn't work out for you, but Im not sure thats a safety issue, I mean we all drove a long time without all that shit anyways.

I didn't even activate the service for the first free year...out of principle. CarPlay and Google Maps works just fine for me.

well if i remember correctly remote connect is now merged into drive connect and no longer a separate service. you have to get either "go anywhere" (drive + remote connect) @ $15, "premium" (drive + remote + streaming) @ $25 or "music lover" (streaming + remote) @ $15 per month.

at that cost over 5 yrs you are at the same price of a 3rd party remote start module + install fee and 5yr plan @ $6 month.

True but when you part 1/2 mile from your office and you can't remember if you locked the doors or not. That app is a life saver. And yes sadly this happens far more than I wish it did

as someone else has said, distance is the issue for the wife. plus the building she works in is like a faraday cage. even cell phones have issues at times getting signal out. i use my fob since my 4runner is parked outside my work door about 40-50 feet.

Just subscribed again yesterday. I think it's worth it in MN winter. I only pay for it until maybe April when it warms up then cancel. Really do wish it was like the wife's 22 highlander where it's only $8 a month...don't really care for the Navi. The AD without the service does not bother me though. once the truck starts, android auto kicks in, all is good.

I grabbed this shot off of google to see if it was still there. I paid $8,500 for it in 1974.

That will be a boom for the aftermarket replacement head unit manufactures because at that point the vehicles will go straight from the lot to the audio shop after purchase, like some people do with tires.

I was all in at the $8 (or was it $9?) for the remote connect, but I won’t do it for almost double the money on principle. I don’t like paying for extra services I will never use just because they can’t sell them as stand alone. I survived just fine without the remote connect services before this truck, and honestly don’t miss them since the trial expired. Besides, the remote start with the key fob works just fine. I can start my truck from my office about 300’ away, so good enough.

I feel the same. It was never mentioned when I purchased my truck. I didn't realize it until I was home from the dealership. I was pissed until I figured out how to use CarPlay with Google Maps in satellite view. Now, I couldn't care less about the Toyota navigation. I didn't even activate it for the trial period out of principle.

It's an option in Google Maps settings. Just hit the little gear icon in the upper right of the screen. You'll find it.
