Could you add the specs on your wheels to your first post build list? Diameter, width, offset?

Truck looks good my fellow DC Arizoner!

Thanks Jamie! You are correct, 17x8.5 0mm offset is the only option for the Icon Six Speed.

I have to run spacers up front to clear upper control arm. So the plan right now is to get some SCS F5s in 3.5" backspacing to get rid of the spacer and sell these Icons. Since you're local, join Arizona Tundra Group on Facebook if you haven't already. I plan to attend more meets so come to one if you ever want to see the truck and meet cool people!

Those SCS F5's would sit 6mm inboard that your current setup. You're at 3.25" backspace currently.

I was almost half tempted to talk with US Wheel or one of those custom steel manufacturers and inquire about a 17x8 3.25" backspace wheel for our trucks. It'd stick even narrower tires out pretty far.

SCS wheels are rad, but pricey at $225 a wheel and they get wider as the offsets increase, so you're forced to run these huge tires on a 9" wide rim. In your case with 35x12.50's, that's a good thing, but I want a rim I can "grow into" so to speak, where I can run a 255 today, and 12.50's later on if so be it.

    Either way, rad truck.

So I'll suck in 1/4", that doesn't bother me when my current setup is so damn wide. I will still clear upper control arm with the 3.5" bs and no spacers which makes me happy. I've run SCS before and I absolutely loved them. I never had a problem balancing either, with these six speeds they are somewhat harder to balance. And I get what you're saying. No one can make that decision for you either unfortunately haha

The husband lasered out the blank switch spot to fit my OTRATTW and added the Drift and American flag! We wired my white combo Baja pods so now I have white and amber. I did not get output shots but I will this weekend. 43180.jpg

The only 1st gen on this Tundra run. We couldn't keep up with the 5100s, so we need to figure out when to order some fucking kings!

I see this all too often and as some one who has done the research and actually wheeled my tundra with 2nd and 3rd gen tacomas, I can say that it is a lot less agile on the trails than the 2nd gen Tacoma because of our length, width and turning radius. But the low end torque of the v8 in combo with my mech lsd made for a fun trail truck. But I did take some damage because of the width of the truck. Several scratches, some of which have indentations.

Width (with and without flares, doesn't include mirrors)

    1st Gen Tacoma : 66.5 - 70.1″
    1st Gen T100 : 75.2"
    2nd Gen Tacoma : 72.2 - 74.6"
    3rd Gen Tacoma : 74.4 - 75.2"
1st Gen Tundra : 75.2 - 79.3" (includes DC which is noteably bigger in every way than the RCLB and AC models)

    Length

    1st Gen Tacoma AC/DC : 202.9″
    1st Gen T100 RCLB/AC : 209.1"
    2nd Gen Tacoma AC/DCSB : 208.1"
    3rd Gen Tacoma AC/DCSB : 212.3"
    1st Gen Tundra RCLB/AC : 218.3"

    Curb Weight

    1st Gen Tacoma : 2,750 to 3,705 lbs
    1st gen T100 : 3,320 to 4,040 lbs
    2nd Gen Tacoma : 3,550 to 4,220 lbs
    3rd Gen Tacoma : 3,980 to 4,480 lbs
    1st Gen Tundra : 3,935 to 5,020 lbs

I am really bummed I missed meeting you and checking out your truck. :( We spent so little time at camp that I saw very few people or trucks I didn't run with. I'll keep following your build though (I love your truck!) and hope to meet another time. :hattip:

Thanks for that info man! I've never owned a 2nd or 3rd gen taco, just eyeballed with friends that it's close. I had a 2nd gen taco guy this weekend consider selling his for a 1st gen Tundra because it's close enough in size and v8 haha

Thanks man! It didn't feel like it. Especially when you guys got separated from us at first we had to go so slow. Next year though we'll be fucking mobbin!

Awh man! Yeah we went on one trail ride and besides that we were camped behind Stefen so we were hidden back there haha I'm sure we'll connect one day! The truck wasn't too impressive this trip since I never got coilovers and we ran out of time on alot of stuff

Yeah that's why I figured i would take mine on the trails, plus it's my first 4wd so I had to get it dirty lol. Now I'm thinking about saving for a used GX470 to make my trail rig.

The GX470 is a luxery ride. Much nicer than our trucks. Why not make the Tundra your trail truck and the GX the daily driver?

Not saying the GX isn't capable off-road. I just wouldn't want to abuse the nicer vehicle.

Well that's kinda my plan. DD the GX for a while till it get like 250k miles then start modding it for off roading. Then I can buy a cheap used LS430 or something to DD. The truck would be shared between me and my dad, because he wants a truck as a secondary vehicle.

Our trucks just don't have the right size and turning radius for the trails. They can certainly be wheeled, but it's difficult lol

@Swalters what is your suspension set up now? still the third clip on bilstein 5100s? I have mine at the third clip now, but am debating going up to the fourth clip when I change out my lbjs, tie rods, bushings, and swar bar end links because it still seems a little lower than I would like. It rides pretty decent now, but I dont know about the fourth clip. I dont want to be nose high or too level and have to add to the rear for loading because the tires will look too small. Im only running 32s haha.

I'm still on 3rd perch. Honestly if I cared enough I'd pop mine up to the 4th. But I'll have coilovers soon enough so I don't care to go through the trouble of adjusting them. My rear end sits about 1-1.5" taller so if I did go 4th perch I'd be closer to level but not totally level.

Added a tailgate seal to help reduce dust. We brought home alot of Sedona dust last trip, so it was needed. Also tested full droop of the rear suspension and we still have about 4 more inches of down travel out of the shocks. So the leaf pack is limiting us now. Good thing we have an AllPro leaf pack we plan to steal from and make a Frankenstein pack.

Did you ever confirm if there was any interest in building these to sell? No harm either way, just thought I'd check before I start shopping for my own. They look great!

If enough people are interested, I don't see why they wouldn't make a run of them. Once these are done and installed on the truck we're going to see how many people are serious
