    Dockett told a 12 year old when he asked for an autograph that he was a porn star and proceeded to rattle off fake films he was in.

    My dad was a 30+ year veteran employee of NBC news. Tom Brokaw was a big douche canoe, as was Bob Costas. Brokaw tried to have my dad fires over forgetting to press record on a video recorder.

    Lap talked about how he made his Ferrari sales rep deliver 2 jet skis to him the year he signed his $100mil contract. There were dozens of Ferrari’s in the parking lot. Who cares?

    I've heard the same from both of them....actually, quite a lot of the press. (I know...who would have thought anyone in the media were douches...:rolleyes:) I've got a friend who's not 'in the media' per se, but works as a war correspondent, as he's a former Army Ranger and in general knows how to maintain OPSEC, what questions to ask/not ask, etc.

    Back in the middle of the war in Iraq (mid-2000's) he'd tell me of stories where they'd have press conferences about how this or that power plant got stood up, or they found this or that cache of weapons or what have you, and the press would yawn, make fart noises, etc., basically anything BUT do their jobs, unless it concerned death and destruction or what have you.

    When I was a kid, my Dads friend owned a security company and he did the security for all the wrestling shows in town. I got to meet Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Papa Shango aka Godfather, Kamala the Ugandan Giant, Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, Mean Gene, I can keep going. The biggest dick of them all, hands down was Hulk Hogan. Complete prick. The nicest guy was Kamala, he was awesome. Side note: when we got older, into our mid 20s was when wrestling really took off with Stone Cold, The Rock and whatnot. My brothers went to a show and brought their replica belts. They were stopped by police officers who asked to have their pic taken with my brothers, the officers thought they were wrestlers! Hahaha.

    My brother cleaned Lyle Lovett's car windows at an Aspen gas station while they they were both pumping gas. Lyle was a friendly and amicable guy, his wife Julia Roberts (at the time) was a raging beeotch according to my brother. No wonder they split up ;)

    Well, to be fair, Patrick Swayze was already terminally ill at the time and was towards the end of his life. He was there to try to get some things in order before he departed the world. I suspect that my store was one of his last stops. He was understandably rather brief as he did say he had a couple more stops that day. As he left, I said "We'll see you next time" he responded with "Probably not, but thank you for your help."

    I had the quick pleasure of meeting John Candy as a kid while my Dad was at work. Was super nervous, and for the short while I saw him, he was super nice.

    My senior year of high school in 1994, my Dad let me hang out in the graphic design studio at NBC tv in New York while he was working on the Today show. I got to go work on one of the computers, and was able to superimpose Bryant Gumbles face onto Courtney Cox’s body. Printed out some color prints to take with me, and that was that...until someone found my file and printed out a few more that made there way around NBC and to Bryant Gumble. Needless to say, my creative side didn’t amuse him...but he was a bit of a dick to begin with.
    Pat Riley was pretty cool, and so was OJ Simpson (before the murders) Got to meet a lot of “celebrities” growing up as a kid.
    would hang out in Letterman’s studio while he rehearsed before he went to CBS. Became fast friends with his Stage Director Biff Henderson. Good memories.

    Yep, when they filmed Sleeping with the Enemy in SC there was one story after another about how awful she was to her host and other locals. She even took out a ad in one of the trade papers talking about how SHE was treated here. She tried to get in a private bar after hours and was denied. She claimed it was because she was with a black man. The bar was owned by a black man....

    When I was a kid I worked at a pretty fancy beach resort near my home town. It was one of those all inclusive ones that celebrities either lived near or visited. The biggest jerk I came across was Allen Iverson. Great athlete but tremendous A-hole. The whole Olympic basketball team stayed there and most were pretty cool. I think it was 2004. The coolest one I met was Danny Devito. He was at the pool and having a drink and super chill. He just has a happy demeanor. I bumped into Tiger twice. Once when I was 14 and caddying at the US amateur tournament. He must have been about 18. We were all waiting in a tent during a delay and I went up to say hello. He had won the Amateur the year before. He was nice to me. Just seemed like a kid with overwhelming popularity and skill that just wanted to play golf. The second time I saw him was at the aforementioned resort and he was working out in the gym with his wife. He was cordial to anyone who spoke to them but most people didn’t. He was already world famous at that point and everyone respected his privacy. Side note: His ex wife was scorching hot. Legit 10/10.

    My experience (not necessarily personal experience, but observation experience) is that a lot of famous people are douches. Fame and money almost always ruin people. A lot of them grew up poor and humble and as soon as they got money and fame they turned into snobs. So sad. A few however are able to stay humble, and I applaud them .
    For that reason (and others) I do not idolize any people, no matter who they are. I have never had the urge to get an autograph or shake the hand of someone who are famous. I don't see the need. I live in Sarasota FL where a lot of famous people live or have vacation homes, and see them around. Always a crowd following them and bothering them for autographs or a few words. Maybe that's what's turning them into douches.

    I was invited to a NASCAR event at Charlotte Motor Speedway where we met with Jimmy Johnson and his crew chief, Chad Knaus and the chief engine builder, Jeff Andrews. It was quite an experience being in the transporter with these folks while they were testing the number 48 car for a race later on in the week.
    As Jimmy was leaving the transporter someone from his team asked us;

    "Would you like Jimmy's autograph ?"

    I was dumbfounded ~ didn't know what to say in light of the fact that Jimmy was running around like a chicken without a head trying to organize all this thoughts for the upcoming race.
    Truly, we didn't want to bother Jimmy ~ merely being in his presence was perfect for us.
    In summation I told Jimmy;

    "You have a lot of fans back home in San Diego."

    Jimmy nodded and quickly disappeared into his own space.

    I guess I'm just not an autograph person ~ this caught me completely by surprise.

    And I'll have to say, all the folks we met at Hendrick Motorsports were very gracious in sharing their time and presence with us. HMS is a first class organization from top to bottom. Everyone loved working for Mr. "H".

    I understand these folks have a lot of shit to deal with, and have certainly dealt with their fair share of assholes and schemers thru their years of working...but also nice to see some class in an organization like HMS, and folks realize where the support (and payroll) comes from. A small gesture like that certainly can make a lifelong fan and sell a bunch of merch, which helps fund the machine. A quick pic and autograph is worth more than gold to most folks.

    I worked for a charter airline for years, and more often than not the A listers we flew were all cordial and professional to everyone. The C listers were usually the ones who were somewhat disrespectful to the flight crew and line service personnel and expected to be treated like royalty.

    I actually don't disagree, though there are some occasional exceptions. One of my favorite stories was when I was in Walt Disney World during our honeymoon (hey, it's where the wife wanted to go LOL). Bumped into a guy who turned out to be Jakob Dylan (Bob Dylan's son, lead singer of the Wallflowers). I just kinda raised an eyebrow, as if to say "Didn't expect to run into you..." and he just said "sshhh...." I realized he was trying to do the incognito thing. That was right after they'd hit the big time.

    A few moments later I went out of the artsy-fartsy store my wife was in and saw him standing around, so I went over and nonchalantly stood near him. He sidled over and I said hey; he said something like "you know why I said 'sshhh...'?" I said "Yep, pretty much figure you're trying to be low-key and relax."

    Anyways, we ended up shooting the breeze for 1/2 hour or so; at the end of it, he thanked me for just being a normal guy and talking to him without any expectations. I get that lots of celebs can be douches...but I also realize that lots of FANS can be douches as well in their singlemindedness to 'say hi' or get an autograph.

    BTW, wife and later my sister almost beat me to death for not getting his autography. LOL

    I absolutely agree. I would probably turn into a big douche also if people don't leave me alone. I am sure even people who like to be in the limelight wants to have some quiet time to do their own thing every now and then.
