The handle is capacitive touch sensor, at least on my tundra. Lock/unlock only occurs when the inside of the handle is physically touched. The sensor activates when touched as the capacitance has changed as there is a change in the electric field. I referenced the resistivity as tap water/hand are similar and significant difference from rainwater. Looking at K (dielectric constant) in journals, tap and rain water has variability with temperature and impurities content. Human skin appears less variable with values mid range of water.

If you have more detail to the circuit design/operation for the door touch circuit, please share. My comments are from hacking experience over the years.

Cue the "it's ridiculous I paid 60k+ for a truck to lock/unlock while I wash a small part of the truck!"

It makes perfect sense. Your fob is within range, and you are activating the smart handles. You said 10 feet away? That's not even twice the reach/wingspan of the average adult. You are activating the door handles with your fob in range. That's it. There's no mystery or build quality issue here at all.
You have to remember, this is the guy mad at his truck for having a high reading on his transmission temp gauge while off-roading in 4hi even though the truck didn't actually overheat.

My Tundra does it, my old Sequoia did it, my wife’s MB GLC does it, her old MB sedan did it…leave the fob further away or put it to sleep if that isn’t a viable option or deal with the lock/unlock sequences while washing it. You do get used to it and learn to ignore it, after a few washes…or I did, at least. Good luck, and it’s one of the little things of life, don’t sweat it!

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
I skimmed the thread to see if anybody mentioned it but toyota literally calls this shit out in the manual. If you were the type to read instead of bitching online, you'd find a simple solution.

pages 130-131 describe the issue you mention and page 129 offers a solution that i actually utilize everytime I walk away from the truck - turning the keyfob off.

Ok, ok, I get it. IMO it’s a lame feature and a waste of money. Still not happy Toyota chose this over tow hooks, or…

Yep, that’s me! Because I live in the real world, a world where a factory gauge pegged into the red means overheating, not normal.

I can’t believe they removed the tow hooks from your truck after you viewed the truck, purchased it, and drove it home. Same goes for the transmission cooler and the distorted windshield.

This bait and switch nonsense will not stand!

I bought the 2020 I’m currently in two months ago. So why didn’t i buy a 3rd gen? Because it didn’t have stuff I wanted on it. Crazy, right?

Guilty. Because after 40+ years of satisfied Toyota ownership, I thought I knew what I was getting into. Silly me. This truck is different.

Our 2009 Camry and Venza were the same. This has zero to do with this Tundra.

My 2020 does this too, it's just the water touching the handles and setting it off. If you find it annoying just leave the keys somewhere other than your pocket.
