Dome/Map Lights Stay On When All Doors Closed

Did anyone come up with a definitive resolution to this? My dome light has been stuck on for the past couple days, and will not go out unless the fuse is pulled. Map lights are working normal. Thx!

 

same on my seqouia... trying to avoid a trip to the dealership

 

Mine just started doing this today. Any other ideas?

 

All fuses are good.
Relays are good (swapped others in place) same result.

Dome lights fade out about 90% of the way when doors are shut and locked.
They go completely out off with the switch.

So something is keeping them on. A slight ground contact somewhere.

The footwell lights and rear cargo all work properly.

@1lowlife what contacts did you bend?

It’s funny. I noticed them slightly illuminated after taking a turn and smacking a big pothole. maybe something is touching now

 

I took the roof console out and looked it over.
Some of the circuit board circuits are very close together.
I stuck a small screwdriver between them and made a bigger gap.

I'm not even sure if that is what fixed it, but my issue stopped after I did it.
It hasn't happened since..

I never definitively figured out what my issue was.
My lights didn't stay on when I closed the door.
Something was grounding the circuit and setting off my alarm in the middle of the night.
I was trying to figure out what was causing it, and I did that with the console, and it never happened again.

Something is grounding your interior light circuit.
Be it in the roof console;




It's possibly a bad door switch, but all they do is ground the circuit when the door is opened.
You could disconnect one at a time and see if that resolves the issue.


Or it could be a door unlock detection switch being that it grounds that circut when you unlock the door and turns those lights on.

 

So I pulled the console, pushed back all the tabs slightly. Before reinstalling it, checked the rear dome light. Still has the issue present.
Reinstalled console. No fix.

To be clear, then lights (only on roof) fade out almost completely off, but I’d say stay illuminated about 5%.
You can see the difference by turning the switch off. Then they go completely off.

The door switches, I’d assume are working because the truck does not show an open door.

Edit all footwell lights and running board lights work normally and fade completely off. They are all tied into the footwell bulb which I cut off.

you have all these wiring diagrams. You don’t happen to know if they share a circuit with the BSM system?

Because if so, I think I know the cause.

Those 2 circuits don't have any connection that I can see.
I'd post the BSM circuit, but it's 7 pages.

Is it both the console/map lights and the rear dome light that do this?
Have you measured the voltage at the socket or somewhere on the console circuit board with everything off?
Probably easier to pull the console again and measure stuff there.
Also, check and make sure those lights have a good ground.

 

yes it’s both the console and rear dome doing it. Making me thinking it’s a grounding issue somewhere.

it’s raining so I can’t really pulled much apart around the kick panel area

 

Found the culprit.. the beginnings of some chewed wires. Looks like just the sheathing from what I can see.

Will be disassembling tomorrow, as I’m not starting this process at 5 in the afternoon.

 

Fingers crossed that you found the issue. Been following the thread to see what the anomaly was. Electronic gremlins can be so frustrating.

Will update once the situation is fixed… or I let it roll over a cliff.

 

All buttoned up and in working order.

Thankfully caught just before a potential disaster.

Two wires showing signs of nibbling outside of the fuse box. Was able to get them pulled apart (with the separating of some of the harness) and repaired the damaged sections. Shrink wrapped in the appropriate colors and re-loomed it all.

No photos as I forgot honestly.


Now my dome lights work properly, and thankfully escaped a huge problem.
