I'm going into the shop for my oil change but when I start my truck up it sounds like a old as tractor with a loud knock which gets louder when I drive after about 40 mins to an hour it for the most part goes away but you and still hear a slight knock I made an appointment today to have them look over the engine. Any ideas or advise on what to say? http://youtu.be/V6wfZ2pW2j0

Either an exhaust leak or your lifters rattling... you have the right amount of oil in it?

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. What year truck. The first gens had some issues with exhaust manifold cracks that would seal and quiet down as the iron heated up

Yeah I was thinking that all that water got up around the motor and and cracked the exhaust manifold or something

They just called me to give me an update. Still working on it something about these trucks are loud lifters and some with fuel and carbon build up and to quiet it some could clean the build up so there still servicing it right now and checking the shocks...lol to me kind of sounds like they don't know why but I'm not to sure.

Tacoma's are know to have the loud lifters. Guess it carries over to the Tundras or all Toyota engines?

I'm pretty sure mine has the same slight tic. I'll check it tomorrow before work though. I always dismissed it since I can never hear it unless the hood is open.

Most have a slight tic, but that was excessive.

Rebuilt engine, painted it bright green and hand-polished the valve cover. Lots of stickers.
Sounds like classic Yota lifters. My Tacoma sounds like that.

yeah, it got me curious when i first heard it as well, but kind of ignored it since i think my '13 tacoma i had prior had about the same noise.
now it boils down to two solutions...

    A) We both have the some problem.
    B) We're both normal.

    I'm hoping for B!
