Can you describe your setup? Looking at towing a Jayco 166. Don't know how to tell if I have a towing equipped truck or not. Don't have a trailer brake controller.

Mine has the tow package. Put your vin in Toyota owners website and it will tell you if you do. A 166 probably is a 3500 to 4000 lb gvwr, so it is possible to tow without the tow package. I would still get a brake controller as the tundras brakes are weak, as well as a weight distribution hitch with built in sway control.

My trailer is a kz escape 231. 27 foot long, 23 foot box. I use an Anderson wdh and have a prodigy p2 brake controller.

Thank you for the info. Found out my AC cab has the tow package so I can just slide the brake controller right in. the 166 is 5100 lb max. Don't think I will make it that heavy.

I dropped some scrap off today and got weighed. Full of fuel, and with my hitch connected, with me and the kids I’m at 5360 lbs. my wife is 120, so I’ve got 1000lbs to spare for my tongue weight and gear. A little better than i guessed.
I’ve weighed my trailer and know when loaded for camping I’m at just under 700 lbs

Just installed the P2. Does yours stay on even after you shut the truck off?

Question for everyone towing (with a 1st gen), I tow my keystone mini with my 2004 tundra, but it doesn’t have the tow package. So I was just wondering what speed you guys tow at? I normally turn overdrive off when I’m towing with my truck due to the fact that overdrive doesn’t like pulling the 3700 pound camper. Small inclines but longer hills even makes my tundra shift down out of overdrive. So I have to tow around 50-58 mph. Which isn’t fun if it’s a long trip. I have a weight distribution hitch with sway control as well.

I would tow my (much larger 28', 6500#) travel trailer no faster than 60mph. Mostly 55mph with OD off. Towed great at that speed. Felt sketchy as hell over 65mph.

I wish I could say it’s mine. But it’s my best friends car. I’ve been riding and wrenching on it since I was 16. Was helping him move out to AZ. It’s got a mildly built 390 BB. Nasty cam, gears, stall and all the supporting components. She gets up and moves pretty good now! We kept it a bit of a survivor car. It probably had a paint job about 30 years ago. But it looks pretty good when it’s cleaned up. Even with all its nicks and scratches and a few small cancer spots. But it’s garage kept now in the nice dry Arizona weather.

I always lusted for those but reality got in the way.
    So, about a 67 XR7 since it’s got the 390 in it?

68 XR7. One of his 6.5 L badges fell off and the only replacements we could find were GT.
Little story behind that, senior year water wars on the last day of school. Someone nailed the side of the car with a water balloon and badge goes missing LOL. Found the GT badges at a junkyard, when junkyards actually let you walk around and they had cool cars. Late 90s

To get back on topic here,

I tow a 26ft typically at 65-70 but any decent grades drop me to 50-55 with the truck screaming to make it. Just a shortfall of our 1st gens.

I sold my motorcycle and bought a boat. Slightly more family friendly. No pics behind the truck and it’s winterized already. Next year I guess.

Newest edition and the reason for upgrading to a newer 2019 Tundra. Outback 292URL. Dry weight of 7,120#. Loaded weight 8,000# or so. It took the maiden voyage to the in laws (2.7 miles) courtesy of the best gen as I haven't picked the new truck up yet. Pulled it just fine at 45mph, but wouldn't want to do a long trip and it's definitely overloaded.

Got another trip in to the smokes this past weekend. Stayed at the koa so we could bike to supper shops etc and not have to deal with parking or traffic.

This was my worst experience with a campsite layout. Absolutely stupid. Arrived at 1130 pm so couldn’t knock on the neighbors door to move his truck. Between the dark, the trees, this guys truck and my wife’s excellent assistance it made for a memorable parking experience.
