There is no engine cover? Or did you remove it for the photo? That helps a decent amount with in cabin noise.

fyi.. if you buy it, I have an engine cover you can have.

    Here's 2 other options...

1: I believe Carmax does off a pretty comprehensive 'extended' warranty (not sure what they charge), but I've heard good things from other people about them taking care of issues when you have the coverage; that being said, I'm sure like most things that's a regional or case by case basis!

2: Another option would be to head over to the Extended Warranty Purchase? thread and see about reaching out to one or two of the contacts mentioned in the thread. Once you have the contact info, you can call and find out what kind of pricing and options are available for extended coverage on the vehicle. I'm just guessing here, but unless there is an issue covering the vehicle you purchased, you could probably grab a Toyota Platinum warranty for $1000-$1500 depending on your annual mileage and duration of use needs!

Not sure how the two would compare, but you could compare both, and if you acquire either, it would probably give you some peace of mind!

    Good luck!

It’s missing the “bar” at back of engine that holds the tab of the engine cover. They are the two threaded holes near rear of intake plumbing.

Very unlikely someone didn’t do an oil change on a new truck. I highly doubt there would be any sludge in 20k anyways. You're good

I know for a fact that my Carfax would only show 1 oil change. I do them myself so don’t let that steer you wrong. If anything buy an extended Toyota warranty.

@SNO BUS I did get a UOA. Copper was a bit elevated at 7, but Blackstone seemed to think it was lingering wear in, since the other wear metals looked good. I changed it with Toyota 0W20 and A4 filter, will do another UOA in 5000 miles. I've put about 1000 miles on it so far, with no problems.

@biebs96 I would love you have that engine cover if you think it will fit. I will PM you.

That's great. I get oil analyses for my 91 Land Cruiser and I feel like they cry wolf sometimes... but good to have for peace of mind especially when you don't know the history of the vehicle. Analyses on a used Lexus we bought with a weird past showed coolant in oil and elevated metal wear but it thankfully has steadily gone down in our care.

    Couple thoughts here:

    1. It was a lease. Could be that somebody leased it to save money and hit a jiffy lube or some such for the 10k oil change. The idiots there could well have left off the skid (if it was ever equipped with one) and the engine cover for whatever idiot reason they might have had at the time. The lease owner probably never looked under the truck or lifted the hood, and so it was never noticed.
    2. Here's the fun thought, the guy that leased it put a supercharger on it, did his own first oil change off the books, and then returned to stock when he went to trade it in, losing the engine cover somewhere in that process.

Special thanks to @biebs96 for the engine cover and @Tigereye for the skid plate and bolts. You guys are awesome!

The skid plate bolted up no problem, after I removed the little splash shield under the radiator. It seems that was an alternative to a skid plate on some models.

I have the rear support bracket and bolts on order for the engine cover. It was about $12 from the dealer. Once that arrives, I will install the engine cover permanently.

I appreciate the help and support. This forum and its members are invaluable.
