If I had to use my wife as the map reader...we would end up in Argentina for sure.

If you had a partner that wasn't great at navigating and map reading they basically became full time drivers and you got stuck in the passenger seat. No need to thank me but you're quite welcome and it's much appreciated. That's all we need sometimes

They still make these? I haven’t used a map in 15yrs. But I can read them and can use them. They aren’t that complicated.

Yes. Old school still works. My son laughs at me for using it, and I still carry CASH, which he does not.

Yes. A NY Delorme is very handy in the Park.

Also, most of the local/regional snowmobile clubs have some pretty great comprehensive trail maps you can pick up at some of the “rustic” watering holes along the trails - assuming you can get served there first.

Or that street numbers are (usually) in fractions of a mile. So if you are at 2300 and your destination address is 3300 you know it is a mile down the street.

Yes, I carry an atlas and would feel foolish not to. I frequently travel across multiple states and Google has given some very bad routing advice too often for me to always trust them.

Gazateer maps for preplanning backcountry routes. One lives crammed between my seat and the center console of mine, and the misses rigs. They have amazing detail with the majority of off-road routes as well. I also used to plan out moto rides with friends on these long before the backcountry discovery route maps became a thing. Though my wife and I often have a funny fake argument over it's actual name, it's a well used reference that has been well used and referred to.

me- have you seen my gazetteer?
    her- you mean the atlas?

Yep, keep a US Atlas in the pocket behind the passenger seat. Bought a new one a couple years ago for the road-trips between Texas and Oregon. I add notes to the map where good stops are like good truck stops, restaurants, etc. for future reference.
